I'm guessing some will hate this idea, but what if the Shropshire Senior Cup was turned into a tournament where the top 4 teams met at GM in pre-season and played 2 semi-finals and a final all on the same day.
The games could be shortened slightly to 30min halves so it wasn't too long. And there would be extra subs allowed etc...
There could be a slightly longer break between game 2 and 3 with some other kind of entertainment. A music concert or something like that.
There could be a fan park outside, food stalls etc and if the gates were the point at where tickets/passes were shown fans could mill about during the whole event... (I guess Shrews/Telf could = trouble so perhaps that's wishful thinking?)
I guess it would be more like a Festival? Advertise the hell out of it, police/steward it properly and I would of thought it could be a great day and a money spinner?
The competition is fading away and needs a re-fresh of some kind... Maybe the idea above isn't workable, but I wonder if Mr Williams can sort it out somehow??
I always looked forward to it and really enjoyed the times I got to see Town actually lift a trophy!!

No club would take that even slightly seriously. Why not go further shorten the pitch and play on both halves with 5 a side? And if we get knocked out we can claim it wasn't proper football.

Both semis on same day then 3rd/4th and final the day after. That's a lot like a lot of pre season tournaments. I'd have thought you could attract some good local crowds for that. Not a bad idea But I doubt the police would have it sadly.

The competition has been fading away for many years now, it is no importance to Town now to prove that we are the No1 team in the County - hell you only have to look at the league tables from the last 60 years to show we are pretty much the 'only' team in the county.
Any revamp has to be Town youth team only.

No, I know it's not the most practical of ideas for many reasons... I just think its a shame the competition is virtually dead in the water atm and something needs to be done

Really cant be arsed with the SSC anymore, it just gives Tinpot players an excuse to kick lumps out of our team, not to mention all the off field shenanigans, not worth the hassle anymore.

All for Town playing friendly matches at local non-league sides. Always good PR and may entice some new/lapsed supporters to the fold. Unfortunately bringing Telford into the mix is just too much hassle as Schizo ably points out above.

It's sad that we would be prepared to let nob heads ruin it for everyone....
I enjoyed seeing Town play at the likes Shifnal and Ludlow as well as Telford.

I always enjoyed the games at Shifnal/Bridgnorth/Ludlow more than the finals with Telford, but we don't need the SSC for us to play teams like these in pre season if we wanted to, but I think those days have gone... we very rarely play teams from their level in pre season now, even the youth team don't bother with clubs like them anymore.

Remember a game about ten years ago where Telford tried kicking us off the pitch to such an extent Peters nearly the team off. Irony was the Telford centre back ended up injuring himself in a tackle and missing most of the season. Imagine how we'd feel had we played Telford pre season and Collins or Woods etc had picked up a bad knock. Happy to go up against them in a FA Cup match and go toe to toe with them with a proper ref. Just not worth it for the Senior Cup

True I guess, but I thought Markglasgow made a good point earlier about PR and generating interest for STFC in the wider community.

Just not worth it for the Senior Cup The way I look at it, no matter how much you hate, or claim to hate and put down your rivals (the enemy), you need them! Those are the games you look forward to the most, they are the ones that have something extra that makes you remember details that you would of forgotten had you been playing a different side. Who wouldn't love to draw Telford or Wrexham in the cup!!? I'm sure many Man Utd fans would secretly be excited if Leeds were to get back into the top flight and Celtic with Rangers too! And to be honest players can pick up injuries in any game. I don't fancy their chances of getting off the pitch in one piece if a player deliberately tried to rough up the current set of lads though..

No way. Better that AFC Bridgnorth, Ellesmere Rangers, Market Drayton, Shifnal and any other contenders compete for the trophy.

Leave it for Youth teams that way any youth players that shine can be spotted and compared to what we've got.

I like the idea of having more than one game on one day.
A bit like they do with the Emirates Cup.
But crowd segregation for a 4 hour period would be quite hard to police, especially if as you would assume Town and Telford would be involved.
As much as it pains me to say it I think the Shropshire Cup is long past its sell by date.

Play after the last game of the season.

Play after the last game of the season. Then NOBODY would be interested - players just want to be on holiday from 4.45 on the final Saturday of the season, and tbh you can't blame any of them for that. A complete non starter idea

Almost every county has worked away around their own cup, Pro Club's tend to play a youth/reserve combination while the smaller Sides play a more senior squad. If their are issues with Pitch then i'm sure there's a park or training pitch available.
