With the squad that got us promoted, were most with us the season before? We almost got promoted the 10-11 season and if we had then the majority of the players would've been on another year's contract in league one. History wouldve been somewhat different for GT in league one if that'd been the case. Think that's a good point which has echoes with other seasons. Often wonder what direction the club would have gone in had we won the play-off games under Peters and Simpson as those squads are arguably stronger than the one Turner up or which Mellon has now. League one with the likes of Holt, Davies etc would have been very interesting It's going to be similar this season I think. If we can get promoted we should be able to keep much of the squad together and hopefully add to it and make a better fist of league one Miss out on promotion and you would suspect the squad would have to be trimmed down again or our better players will move on, making promotion tougher and the chances of starting a league one campaign with a settle squad that little bit more difficult Think there is a very fine line between success and failure at this level

I enjoyed the fact that we have won all three of our competitive home games.
I’m enjoying that we appear to have four very good forwards who have all opened their Salop account.
I have enjoyed watchingWeso who is the sort of combative midfield ankle biter that every good team should have.
Clark looks like a real ‘footaller’. I enjoy that.
I’m enjoying the overall balance of the squad and the fact that a decent player like Wildig can’t and probably won’t get in the side.
To balance it all out what I’m not enjoying is that at the moment is that we look defensively vulnerable.
Finally I’m not enjoying the nagging feeling that MM will turn out to be another Simpson. By this I mean underachieving with a relatively expensively assembled squad. Not the rest of the Simpson nonsense.
Anyway I’m off to Sixfields to see how the defence gets on. I’ll let you know if I enjoy it or not.

This team would survive in L1 with ease. If Turner would have stayed on last season we would have stayed up with ease. See, it's easy to play this game... I'm excited about the season, I really am. But I'm amazed anyone would come to that conclusion after just a few games in a division below and one other game against a club in total disarray. I do hope you are right but I think its a bit too early to come to that conclusion. Would be great to get MM's opinion on that mind, I'd like to see him answer that question (whether he thinks he has a side in place already that could survive a division above). Be interested to see what he thinks on that...

Be interested to see what he thinks on that... Funnily enough, its not really a game, there were a few who stated before a ball was kicked that the only eventuality last season was going to be relegation, of which I was one, and got fully lambasted for it, unfortunately we were proved right, and got a few quid off it, this season, I would happily place this team in a mid table finish in L1. I am viewing what I say on what I have viewed on the pitch.
I will also state that no striker has excited me as much as Mangan has in his 3 appearance's since Luke Rodgers burst into the fold way back with Jemson. Would love to see a pairing upfront of Mangan and Collins.....
Now is a good time to be a Town Fan after 2 years of depressing management.... anyway, off to Northampton....... Nailed on draw!!

More like one year of depressing management. The first year I could live with as it was a new league and we did well to stay up. I fully expected us to push on after that and had full faith in GT to do just that, after all he had got us promoted in an 'unbeaten at home' season (right up there with the best Town seasons we've ever witnessed) and then he steered us away from relegation the following season. That's fantastic followed by ok.
But he didn't push on, in fact it went downhill. We struggled for any sort of form all season, did ok at times, but there was no identity, the loan strategy was just not working and without that there was nothing left really. It was hard to watch and seemed inevitable that he would go, which was a real shame, and as a fan I felt really disappointed and let down. P*ssed off with being a Town fan on the day he went and annoyed with the whole club as the season finished
As for the new era, well I've said this a few times, MM and RW have worked wonders in assembling a team, no a squad, that we can call our own. That for me is the singlemost important factor in enjoying this season a lot more so far. I still don't know who the players are really (!), but I'm getting there !
The fact that we are playing good football, scoring goals, looking confident, have players on the bench who can change games, look like we have gelled early and have a bit of 'luck' on our side shows promise that MM knows what he is doing. And if he can do that in such a short time then maybe he has the management talent to help us grow over the coming years ?
But as I said they are all bonuses, as it all could go t*ts up yet ! There are better teams to come.
But am I enjoying myself more ? Then yes, of course, but not just because we are doing well, but also because there is identity, promise and an apparent commitment from the board, and that means that in these early days these are exciting times to be a Town fan once again.

History wouldve been somewhat different for GT in league one if that'd been the case. Just a few points Nicky Wroe was signed by Turner on an 18 month contract Sharps was offered a one year contract when he wanted a two year contract. SCS had previously resigned for the club. All examples of the managements short termism.

Many thought the same when we spent a load when Simpson came here. Hence I'm taking nothing for granted.

My bad, senior moment recalling the Wimbledon game. The point remains though, we've kept 2 clean sheets in 5 and remain unbeaten. Give or take 3 minutes today it would have been 3. For a defence with people making their club debuts and league debuts that's not a bad return for the first five games. Leutweiler, Ellis, NKP & Demetriou are all brand new, and you could argue Gayle is too.

Yep, very encouraging, slightly disappointed with Leutweiller today, kicking 2nd half was poor, and don't think he should have come for the cross as there was cover from the defence, but was a really good showing from the rest, 2nd half was superb.
Very Happy town fan ATM

Very Happy town fan ATM Not sure there was much cover from the defence for their goal considering it was a free header! Agree on his kicking though, looked suspect second half.

I hope this vulnerability continues! It’s more to do with inept finishing than anything else. Witness the cross and miss from the middle of the goals on Tuesday from Stanley. The late equaliser today points to vulnerability, though overall we defended better.

Something about our defending isn't 100% convincing yet, although it's not easy to put my finger on exactly what it is. I hope it doesn't turn out to be Leutwiler, who did not have a good afternoon today.
