This is the "problem" you have with a large and competitive squad, and it is a problem that most managers in the lower leagues would love to have.
I am a big fan of Wildig, and I think his quality has improved year on year as he has matured. His early season form last year was consistently praiseworthy, and although he may have fallen away towards the end, that was more because of the general malaise that infected everybody, many worse than him.
In a way I am relieved that he has had injury niggles, because I wouldn't like him to become the "forgotten man" of the GM. If he can be patient and with good man management and the one-for-all and all-for-one attitude of a happy squad, and both of those seem very visible at the moment, I am sure that he will get first team action as the season unfolds, and his crisp, accurate passing from positive forward positions will dovetail well into this good, footballing side.
But the competition really is intense; I have not seen so many good mid-field players fighting for a first team slot in all the years I have followed Salop. And you feel that whoever plays, the quality will stay at a high level.
Right now my fingers are crossed, willing the transfer window to close, with all of them, especially Woods, still with us... and keep the selection "problem" an ongoing one.
Because, and I know that it's still early days, and I am trying not to get carried away... and I certainly don't want to "goatmouth" them... but this team, at the moment, looks as though it's in the wrong league!
