I don't live in salop so just wondered how the local music scene is at the moment? What happened to the sunshine underground? Used to really like there stuff but not heard anything of them for a while, IV also heard some of the tracks from fight the bear which sounded really good, are there any other bands/artists breaking through??

The Sunshine Underground had a new album out in May and are touring in the autumn.
Don't tend to play much locally now except for the Shrewsbury Fields Festival which they normally make an appearance! Same festival normally has a local bands slot on the Friday night although I have to confess none have really stood out much in the last two years

Friday night is music night in town. Most pubs will have a band/singer on with varying degrees of quality.
It just depends on what you’re looking for.

The Sunshine Underground are one of the best live acts in the country. They recently released their third album that got into the Top Ten (I believe). Very much an established act, I think their days of playing locally are behind them.
Check out Lady Fortune, a Wellington band that have been around for a few years now. A similar sound to the early-Blur years, they are another good act that play around the country. Check out their videos on You Tube.
The only other local act that are worth watching are Thom & Chrisbee. Shrewsbury lads, they have their own unique style & are again, rather good. Seek out their Facebook page for vids.

It's not a bad scene, you obviously have plenty of pub singers/bands out there but there are a few bands ( like the ones mentioned above) who stand out above them
Certainly noticeable that there's more places doing live music and open mic nights than their used to be

When Ian Whit gets back from hols he'll surely be able to chime in here.
A long standing supporter and promoter of up & coming Salopian music.

Quite like listening to Andy O'Brien he's good was in a band clockwork or summit Clocktower, he's actually left them now though. They are from Wolves but play locally quite a bit and have a decent following from here. Andy and Robbie Jones (Salopia) are decent lads and put on quite a few events around town
