i collect photos of pre 1960 photographs of midland red buses, particularly shropshire and in salop. i have today bought a photo of a mid red d/decker reg. number nha 855 on it's side in a field between shrewsbury and ludlow on x34 service to or from hereford.
the question i am posing is do any of the older members recall a bus accident in the early 1950's to mid 1960's involving this double decker. thanks, a bit of a long shot i suspect. the bus seems to have turned on its side and slid down a slight bank. little damage except o/s front wing. i would like to know the location.
thank you.

Ask Jaytee. He was probably flashing the driver, indirectly causing the accident...Case solved!

We had a small holding near Marshbrook and did in fact have a Midland red "visit" one of our fields, I did not recall that it finished up on it's side though.Does the photo give enough background detail to be able to identify the location as I also cycled parts of that road regularly and could possibly identify the spot. A few years earlier a lorry load of margarine did finish upside down in the same field (rationing was in place then), a couple of cars of police arrived and the load was guarded overnight, the driver reported 28 lbs of his load was missing the next morning.

the bus is lying on its side. there are no other features apart from a photographer in the gap in the hedge/ trees through which the errant d/d passed. i am guessing the date as the bus was new in about 1951 but the bus has had a collision or swerved to avoid a collision, hitting the o/s front on a tree or hedge.
if marshbrook is a goer do you recall the approx year. perhaps the sloppy might know if i can narrow it down. anyway it passes the time until friday 15.00.

A Midland Red bus turned onto it's side on Dinmore Hill in this era and after recovery was towed to Bearwood. Will possibly have more info and even drivers name and recovery drivers name some time soon. (I did say possibly).

many thanks, just caught up with your thread. talking of midland red, i have just bought a handbill advertising the opening of the new barker street bus station in 1952, when bus services originally terminating in the square moved to barker st.

i have had it confirmed that Midland Red Double decker NHA 855 was in collision with a lorry and a car on Dinmore hill Herefordshire, on 7.12.55. it was travelling on x34 service. you may recall it finished up on it's side in an ajacant field.
I do hope we can sleep easier tonight after these revelations! Floreat Salopia!
