Wolves, Blackburn, Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday teetering on the brink in the Championship with Bristol City already down. Gillingham and Vale coming up with Rotherham and Cheltenham fighting to avoid joining Burton, Northampton and Bradford in the play-offs. With localish games already guaranteed against Walsall, Tranmere and Crewe, things are shaping up nicely. With hopefully better home form enticing a few more through the gate, there is lots to look forward to next season IMO. COYB

The thoughts of fairly local matches home and away will be an extra attraction as people may think screw it this place and that are not far away let's head down for an away day too. Plus hopefully only a small hand full of long away days too to have a laugh at

At least we have a trip to Crawley next season - just up the road for me! Wish we could catch Brighton...

Heavens no we cannot have too many local away days. More people might attend and prevent true fans from standing near the front!

Hopefully "true fans" would never dream of standing up and blocking other true fans view of the game.

Funnily enough yesterday the standers went on the back 3 or 4 rows, and the sitters sat everywhere else, and it was one of the better away atmospheres this season, and nobody was inconvenienced.

Burton and Cheltenham coming up would be good for more local games. We can stick all the away fans in blocks 1 & 2. It won't hurt to shift the few hundred season ticket holders from there. If they have a moan, they're just plain selfish. Don't think anyone's thought of that before.

However, it also means next season will be tougher than this one. Gillingham, Rotherham and Vale look likely to come up automatically, and I'd expect all three to do pretty well with big crowds and having invested plenty recently. There aren't any teams coming down like Pompey who will struggle - I think all three teams that come down will be challenging to go straight back up. If Cheltenham go up via the play-offs (as I think they will) then that's another decent side who I think will be useful at this level.
We really are going to have to move forward to stagnate. I think that Cheltenham and Vale may go down out of that group, but they won't be as poor as the likes of Bury and Hartlepool this season. I suspect over 50 points may be required to stay up.

I hope Cheltenham go up.
Always enjoy a trip to their place and would do exactly what I did last time: take a place on their home terrace and watch the game as god intended.
A nice means of escaping the jam sandwich brigade and their 'you must sit down in silence' nonsense.

My thoughts too Although it could well be Bradford who come up too who will also have lots of support and resources. Can't see any of those sides having the financial problems Portsmouth or Bury have had this season.

ShrewinJapan: I wouldn't say silence sir. I applauded the Town's play and shouted encouragement, but admittedly did not burst into a chorus of "Going Down The Wyle Cop".
In an ideal world I'd have loved to have stood and sung in the designated away end, but this is proving increasingly difficult. I'm tired of the selfishness and bickering frankly.
In future - if there is the option to stand in another part of the stadium - I will position myself accordingly.

I'm still hoping to add Bradford, Udders and Blackburn to next seasons fixtures!

I don't think League 1 is particularly strong this season, and we've struggled, and next season it already looks a lot stronger, so we will definitely have to up our game to survive. However agree that potentially more local trips. I'd like either Wolves or Blackburn to come down or Sheff Wed.

i can see bristol city struggling next season and perhaps financially. one must also consider how wolves and blackburns finances will stand up to life in league 1. it will definitely be a much stronger league than this year. town may do well to achieve 14th place, assuming flair and experience have been signed or re signed by august.

Mate I agree with a lot of what you say in general on here, always been behind the Loggerheads stuff and go along with how depressing Walsall was and that I prefer standing at games and making a noise etc etc, but in the times I've been to Cheltenham I've stood up, in a seating area admittedly not a terrace, but I've stood up and tried to make some noise, I remember the second half of the game on boxing day or New Year's Day (?) we sounded loud. Like I say I agree with your stance on standing at football, making noise and preferring a nice old terrace but I've never had trouble standing at Cheltenham, wouldn't you prefer to stand amongst that rather then in an area where you can't really express the emotions felt during 90 minutes? Not a criticism, a genuine question as I couldn't see myself doing that.

Next season is going to be an incredibly tough one I fear. Like others before me have alluded to, the teams coming up and down will all be looking for top half finishes at the least (bar maybe Cheltenham/Burton). This season has contained some very poor teams, ourselves included.
I just hope we have a productive summer, going to be an interesting few months seeing the squad we build.

Having avoided going straight back down, we now need to avoid second season syndrome Have a suspicion the teams promoted from L2 may struggle... with the amount of teams struggling in it, I feel it may have flattered Vale/Gillingham.

Port Vale will surely lose Pope in the summer? 31 goals gets you noticed
