fuss about nothing, but there was another similar thread recently
It seems to be something that has come in over recent years - I wonder if the internet may be partly responsible, as easier to type shortened version, (similar to darlington becoming Darlo ?)
can't say it bothers me

Don't like the name Shrews either. Developed from the lazy use of language.

The 1980 riverloop badge says Shrews on it!
We currently sing oh when the Shrews go marching in! Our finest badge even better than the loggerheads IMO opinion was the Mighty Shrew badge. Wasn't there a fanzine called The mighty shrew once! You look at most websites and our nickname is Salop, Blues or Shrews. A lot of TV presenters, newspapers and magazines have refered to us as The Shrews since our inception to the football league in the 1950's.
My only question to those that haven't noticed it is open ya ears a bit or what you been sniffing?

Within Shrewsbury during 50s 60s and 70s the name Shrews was not in common use. It was probably invented by lazy media reporters. We would say we are going to watch the Town not going to watch the Shrews.

Never liked the term " the shrews " although it is in general use . Much preferred "Salop " to be honest . The shrews badge is simply ridiculous , who wants a bloody rodent type thing on their club shirt.
Trouble is no one is going to refer to us as the " Salop " are they , or the " loggerheads " and the media have often in the past referred to us as the" shrews " particularly in headlines such as " the taming of the shrews "
Looks like we will just have to continue to live with it as long as it doesn't interfere with the re introduction of our beloved " Loggerheads ".

Swansea - Swans Wolverhampton - Wolves Tottenham Hotspur - Spurs Middlesbrough - Boro Shrewsbury - Shrews
Like it or not its one of two unique nicknames for our club the other being Salop. Blues and Town are used by many other teams so in theory Shrews or Salop is more recognisable.

Not going to disagree just that from a personal point of view I don't like the term but yes, you are right , it is part of our history . It is unique and is a name that no other club can share . Don't want to see a shrew on our club badge though , part of our history is the Loggerheads and will be with us forever .

This came up about a month ago, and my reply is the same The Shrews is the official nickname for the club. All clubs have a official nickname, it's one that a board of directors picked years ago, hence we had the Shrew(rat) as a badge at one time, because it was our nickname. So when commentators say Shrews it's because that is our official nickname, the one they are told to use. So contact the club if you want to moan about it or ask who to talk about it to.

Should everybody contact the club before whinging about something on here? of course not, nonsense in fact. And as the following poster pointed out, I'm not sure it's an official nickname either.
