Its in the SS today that GT has done the same by contacting the 'referee's department' about the incident. I doubt that will do much but with the respect of GT's time in the game and stature then Mr Malone could expect to be seeing more BSP football for the next few weeks, my guess anyway Draw a line under it now and focus on Creepy and Mr Rab C Nesbitt on Monday

Clearly a very poor ref and a 'bottler', but not sure that's got anything to do with where he's from. Apparently he's from Salisbury which is 40 miles away - does that mean Shrews shouldn't have refs from Stoke, Woverhampton, Stafford, Crewe, Birmingham etc? We lost cos of shonky goalkeeping and a dodgy ref, not cos of where he was from. Reckon we forget Tuesday and move on. Let's not turn this into another ready made excuse for failure (Wycombe) but believe that we can still suceed. We're in a cracking position with 15 to go. There used to be a world cup ref who lived and trained in wolves. At one time he wasn't allowed to ref Town games because he lived to close.

Just had a reply and to be fair this reply didnt take very long to come back to me. "Thank you for your email. The referee who was appointed for the match between Swindon Town v Shrewsbury Town is logged as living 50 miles away and has no connection with Swindon Town. Referees who have any connection with or have supported a club are excluded from officiating these fixtures. In Premier League matches, referees come from shorter distances. It is the integrity that counts, not the distance. I hope the above helps to explain your points below. Thanks you for contacting The Football League. Kind Regards Amanda Amanda Craig Customer Services Administrator The Football League Limited Email - enquiries@football-league.co.uk www.football-league.co.uk"

"It is the integrity that counts, not the distance."
And how do they measure that then?

That is a very good question.
The statement also begs the question why that principle doesn't apply across international boundaries. Clearly it's recognised that there is a point at which distance overrules integrity!

Indeed!!
You can live over 50 miles away from a club and still support them! Just a very standard answer from Amanda if you ask me.

The lousy reply doesn't surprise me. Remember writing to the Football League after the Trophy game at Carlisle got called off not long before kick off, and the reply they sent basically said nothing at all but was just PR and they clearly never investigate what I'd asked them too.
Football League dropped a clanger in allowing him to ref the game. Instead of acknowledging a mistake they just issue PR stuff instead. Also If that reply is true then why did we once have an ex Sc***horpe player ref a game v Sc***horpe

You would have thought common sense would tell them that any controversy would ultimately leave Shrews fans disgruntled and muttering! I am very disappointed in Amanda!!!!

Exactly. It was easily avoidable. They were never going to admit to a mistake but at least the point has been made and I just hope the situation is avoided in future. That's as much as we can hope for.
