Brilliant. Underwhelmed by the draw and even more underwhelmed by the price, but the possiblity of that happening and the thought of missing it made the decision for me. After Oxford, I've got to say it was a difficult decision but over the moon

Listened to bits of commentary on BBC Wales and they highlighted Grandison and Morgan as our best players and felt the youngish Swansea side had trouble coping with the physical presence of these players.
was clear from the commentary this was far from a full Swansea side and those playing did nothing to force their way into their premier league side, however they were really complementary about how Shrewsbury played
Sounds great entertainment but still not convinced it was much more than a glorified work out for Swansea's reserve side. If we get a decent away trip in the next round to one of the premier league grounds I've not been to I'd go, but otherwise not parting cash for a competition well past it's sell by date

If we get a decent away trip in the next round to one of the premier league grounds I've not been to I'd go, but otherwise not parting cash for a competition well past it's sell by date Ask Brendan Rodgers or any of the Swans fans if they regarded it as a glorified work out for the reserves. It was never that and the suggestion does a disservice to a great Town performance. Having a season ticket the question doesn't arise, but I'd choose a Carling Cup tie before a routine league game. The quality of football and entertainment value have been consistently high in recent seasons. It's not past its sell by date at all. Even if the big clubs play some fringe players, the quality of those teams is still generally far higher than almost any other team we play. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to the cups and it's a real shame that so many fans have given up on them but, on nights like tonight and a fortnight ago, that's their loss. I guess it's chicken and egg but, if the fans don't bother with the cups then a lot of clubs won't either.

Am I gutted to miss it, a little yes, but does it mean that I should have gone. No I simpley cant afford it at the moment, and none of the regualr ST holders around me felt the same. That the crowd was around 1000 down from Saturday indicates that despite the result, the attendance was poor.
As some say, the game was more attractive and a higher quality... if the not the Price put the fans off... what did?

Many seasons ago, if we drew higher league opposition, it was an increase in prices, FWIW< the club goyt this spot on in my opinion, higher league opposition, So approx 1000 less than Sat, would suggest that many reasons were the cause, with the price just being a fraction of the reasons, what about exiles not travelling, people with work etc etc, for those that could have made it but thought they would make a pointless protest about the price................ tough s**t fellas, you missed a hell of a game!!

Interesting Comparisons of League Cup Attendances over the last few years at home 2001/02 – No Home Games 2002/03 – No Home Games 2003/04 – In Conference 2004/05 – No Home Games 2005/06 – 1st Round - Brighton League 1(Gay Meadow) – 2,151 2005/06 – 2nd Round – Sheffield United Championship (Gay Meadow) – 4,250 2006/07 – No Home Games 2007/08 – 1st Round – Colchester League 1 (New Meadow) – 3,069 2007/08 – 2nd Round – Fulham Premiership (New Meadow) – 6,223 2008/09 – 1st Round – Carlisle League 1 (New Meadow) – 3,337 2009/10 - 1st Round – Ipswich Championship (New Meadow) – 4,184 2010/11 - 1st Round – Charlton Championship (New Meadow) – 3,700 2011/12 – 2nd Round – Swansea Premiership (New Meadow) – 4,063
Put the attendance in context… its down on the two other most attractive League Cup fixtures at the New Meadow (Ipswich and Fulham), and a full 2,200 down on the most comparable fixture the 2nd round game vs a lower order Prem team, Fulham. I think that swhat we should have been aiming for again.
The last home game before the Fulham game was Bradford City which saw 6,400 fans so the drop off was much less than between the Crewe and Swansea games this season. Interesting stuff.

Downie in the last 12 months my income has been £1690 to be precise I'll estimate I spent far more than that following town in the last 12 months
My income in the last 6 months has been £0
as I pointed out before the game I may have found £10 but drew the line at £10
I went last Saturday I'm going this Saturday
I moaned at the brambles so went and cut them myself
I've contacted the club offering voluntary work
now tell me how loyal you are
Ps at least I stand by my name when I moan and not hide behind someone else's

Bare in mind the 3400 Shrewsbury fans quoted included all of the sovereign seats no matter how many actually attended: I was offered two free sovereign seats at the last minute.
Shrewsbury had a great result last night, but the attendance was significantly DOWN.
Not the same.
Not higher.
But down.
So the "price elasticity of demand" as people keep on quoting to us was obviously stacked well in favour of the the price above the demand which can only be described as a mistake.
It is a mistake because we did not have a bigger crowd.
It is a mistake because it antagonised a significant number of supporters: of course it did, how come we had 1000 more for Crewe than we did for a premiership club.
And it is also a mistake because we did not use the glamour of a big cup tie (Beacon radio words, not mine) to actually ATTRACT people to the stadium to get a taste of watching football in their town.
The way people work out whether something worked or not based on ticket prices x number of people there never tells the full story, because what about programme sales or the club shop that night or the little 8 year old lad who gets the bug and when he becomes an adult becomes a £300 a year customer for the next 60 years.
So instead of having a cup upset to celebrate with a big crowd and a positive message the club have alienated a lot of regulars who simple were not there. If anyone knew how to run the software they could work out how many of our season ticket holders actually went: for them the finances of "three games in a week" did not matter as much.
The problem with that is once you start saying "stuff it, i'll miss this one" then whatever you do instead gets another run out and the more you do it the less you are tied in.
And don't give us the "loyal supporters" crap either: we are not supporters, we are customers, and we are bottom of the pile because we are the smallest customers (ironically not in percentage terms, but in individual value). The problem last night is that 1000 or so "loyal supporters" when treated like customers acted like them, and used their customer choice.

The reason you are percieved a trouble maker is because you are one of the first to have a dig at anythin the club do. My post about Roland has cost my business money because I have something they want, but will not use it because of me and that post. I do not moan about it as I did it!! The Fulham game was amongst the first at the new ground though, so that's a factor, as is the fact that they're an established Premiership club with some standout players at the time. But yeah, the attendances are disappointing. I think, in general*, it's fair enough to charge normal prices for League cup tbh - we always see higher level opposition and, looking at the list, invariably a cracking game; the games that really should be discounted are the JPT, and the odd unglamorous league game. *In this particular instance though, with three home games in a week, they probably should have done something - be it for this game, a package deal, or one of the league games.
