Are Schalke really semi final standard? Dreadful Agreed. They look like a mediocre German side right now. That's exactly what they are. They're mid table and going no where fast in the league. They must have done something special to get this far, or get extremally lucky. Man Utd will be delighted with their luck that they got these jokers instead of the two Spanish teams contesting the other semi final

No, he is right. They are a mediocre top flight German side. Sat 10th in the Bundesliga pretty much doing nowt (and playing awful football to boot). They lost at the weekend at home to relegation threatened Kaiserslautern. Said before and I'll say it again, amazed how they got this far in Europe.
And I bet it was as easy for Manchester as the scoreline suggest too? I am sure Manchester played well and got the job done (can't take anything away from them, superb result) but Schalke are not a great side...not saying they are s**t but they ain't even the best here in Germany by a far margin...

German has really developed its league for its fans, we really need to copy suit and not let prawn sandwich brigades ruin what could be amazing. By this i mean re introduce safe terracing, a more party type atmosphere, more colour, more noise rather than moaning mini measurable deadbeats about the place.

By this i mean re introduce safe terracing, a more party type atmosphere, more colour, more noise rather than moaning mini measurable deadbeats about the place. English football has gone our kid, I doubt we'll ever see anything on the German model in England now. Way too much money involved with folk making a fair bit out of the game (who now hold all the power). They'll never change it unless the fans actually did something as one and act. Which you can't see happening. Now granted the football isn't the best and their teams are not the strongest in Europe (apart from Bayern I suppose, but German sides do not spend like the top English and Spanish clubs) but its affordable, you can stand, there is very much a sense of belonging with the club and the community, they have the 50 + 1 rule so you don't get folk coming in looking to get what they can out of the club (most stadiums are owned by the city or town anyhow and so can not be bought and sold off for profit) and its also unpredictable (something that went for a Burton some time past in England when money become the dominant force). Has a fair bit going for it the Bundesliga...

They look like a mediocre German side right now. That's exactly what they are. They're mid table and going no where fast in the league. A quick look at the Bundesliga suggests you can't argue with this Again, a quick look at the Bundesliga would suggest this. Qualifying this far involved beating Lyon, Benfica and Hapoel Tel Aviv in the group stages, Valencia and Inter in the knock outs. A couple of decent teams in there but Inter are nothing like the force they were last year under Mourinho when their aging squad of players peaked, generally Schalke just beat run of the mill European teams at a similar standard to themselves. I don't care how good United were last night, Schalke did not play to semi-final standards[/quote] Are you honestly going to argue that United would have rather played Real Madrid or Barcelona than Schalke?

Why don't the Manchester fans pop of and start a new thread about how great Manchester were (sorry, I mean are) against a decent Schalke side whilst we continue to discuss the real merits of the side sat 10th in the Bundesliga... Anyhow, does indeed seem as though Neuer is off to Bayern. That's pretty much how things work over here. Any decent player in the league always seems to head off to Munchen. That's why they are pretty much hated by supporters of every other club. Even if the player does nowt at Bayern it still means he isn't doing well elsewhere. For Schalke to get as far as they did is a great effort, I don't think anyone gave them any chance of getting so far. Considering thier league performances and form you would have been daft to back them to do so. As for the game against Inter, just one of those things...the ball is round as they say here in Germany. But if Inter were to play Schalke tomorrow I know where my money would be, that's for sure... match report from this side is that it could have been 8 for Manchester if it weren't for the keeper. One chap said it were like watching a 1st division side play against a 3rd division side. Two nil looked comfortable but I didn't realise it were that comfortable. Men against boys by the sounds of it. Schalke finally caught out.

My post was not aimed at the merits of a team or a game.
Man Utd slaughtered them last night.
I was looking at the whole way they are set up and thinking I would rather support them than most premiership sides because they seem to be organised around the fans.
