Sorry if this has already been discussed, but anyone concerned about the back page of the Chronicle this week?
It sounds epically naive to me.
We have been here before, and lost.

Agent asked to discuss a new contract.
Turner refused.
Apparently he does not want any " distractions" during the season.
He does not want Taylor thinking he has it all sorted, nor does he want him disapppointed if the contract is less than he wanted.
So it has to wait.
But very confident he will sign at the end of the season.
Sounds like a contract policy from the 1980s to me, completely absent of the way agents tout players these days.
The young player of the month in the whole league sits on his hands on a first year pro contract that runs out in 3 months?
Very strange.

I would like to see something done right now. Turner has made it almost totally obvious he's going to be offered a new deal, so I don't see the difference it will make offering it to him now or in 3 months time.

In 3 months time he won't be under contract and will get better offers than us from higher divisions on more money.

I quite agree, possibly misunderstood me there, what I mean is I don't see these potential negatives that Turner is alluding to that make it "better" to start negotiations at the end of the season, if I was manager I'd already have that contract under his nose.

So basically ripe for poaching by another Club who are prepared to turn his head.

all true - but town will be due a fee, i presume that is partly why Turner is holding back somewhat. Still a bit worrying, i follow his agent on twitter, just waiting to see him touting Taylor around

From our dealings with Wolves we know that Rooney will not be getting a contract with them and is free to trial with us. Davies is getting a contract with Wolves. Take a leaf out of wily Mick Mc's book and tell our young players where they stand?

Take a leaf out of wily Mick Mc's book and tell our young players where they stand? Not sure GT needs lessons from that whippersnapper McCarthy. It's very obvious where Jonny Taylor stands. He will be offered a new contract in due course. Just depends if he wants to stay and develop as a footballer here or if his (or his agent) head will be turned by an offer from higher up the pecking order.

I wish I could find out how many scouts are there next week
Scouts from teams with ambition
Let's snatch the first crap offer for Taylor and Bradshaw and watch them flower elsewhere
Nothing new is it

We never learn with regard to contract negotiations do we?
At the very least we could sign him up with a clause in the contract allowing him to negotiate with other clubs if they are prepared to pay a certain fee.
That way he doesn't go for peanuts courtesy of a Tribunal.

Only difference being that we'll get something but probably far from enough.

makes you wonder what we are waiting for ?
are we just saving a couple of quid as we are currently paying him peanuts or what ?
cant we simply offer him a contract that has benefits for goals, assists, promotion etc whatever happens between now and may could surely be incorporated into a contract
i know we are only speculating and know nothing but its so frustrating when this seems to happen time after time

Its 'The Shrewsbury Way' Exactly the same was said the last couple of seasons with a different manager so only one person makes these decisions RW

Hes not the type of player to stop putting in 100% effort or to take things for granted, he clearly wants the club to do well, i dont think it would effect his passion or performances if he signed now, just do it.

Forward thinking, progressive clubs are now begining to get their "better" young players under contract to prevent predators.
Sadly, we are neither, and look like again we fail to learn from recent schoolboy errors at boardroom level.
Seems like we are determined never to rid ourselves of our "Non-league" boardroom mentality.

Do i take it then that Bradshaw's contract is up at the end of the season as well?
This is a high risk strategy the Club is taking with some of our most exciting prospects.
Given how we have had our fingers burnt with some of best players walking away for free over the last few seasons you would have thought lessons would have been learnt.

Can't see the problem with offering him an improved 3 year contract and making it mainly bonus related and telling him it will be reviewed again in January should he keep improving. Same goes for Bradshaw too.

Think we do as a club need to start locking our assets in earlier and on longer contracts but in this case im told Jon Taylor will be "looked after" and both parties agree contract negotiations would only be a distraction at this stage of the season. He seems very keen to stay but anytime agents are involved you never know to the dotted lines signed!

Taylor and his agent know his contract's almost up so they'll look around if they want to. If we make an offer now and they're looking for more, where does that leave us and, more importantly, what effect could that have on Taylor's form for the remaining games?
If Taylor wants to go and/or gets a much better offer than we can give him, then he'll go, whether we make him an offer now or in May. If I was his agent I'd advise him not to sign a 2 or 3 year deal with a League 2 club before the end of the season anyway. Other clubs will be well aware of his potential and availability. Would we offer a League 1 contract now? Wouldn't seem sensible. Would we offer a lower contract with all sorts of bonuses but only if we go up? Better for us but not great for him if other, better placed clubs might be keen.
He knows we want to keep him and it makes sense to me to avoid distraction, talk to him in May and see what happens then. If we're going to be outbid, it'll happen anyway whether we offer something now or later.

See Page58s comments when he quotes Dave Hughes when exiting The Racecourse Ground today............
He did say that he fears we may lose Jonny Taylor in the summer

i've seen him do more in a couple of months than i saw our so called legend sam aiston do in 7 years they both seem to fly past players down the winger, the only difference is taylor can pass and finish the ball at the end of it at this moment in time i'd rather we take the chance with him than someone else

I'm sure Graham Taylor knows what he is doing, we have to believe that or else we may as well call for his resignation. I can understand his position on the "Robinson" loan, time was tight and he needed to release Robinson and sign Wroe. Who got the best deal? No argument. I don't feel that we will lose young Taylor, he seems well settled and enjoying playing at the G.M. By the way, did'nt we all call for G.T. to hurry up and sign Mark Wright permanently. Done wonders for his levels of performance since, i don't think.
