It actually feels quite strange to be sat here relatively near (about 300km maybe) to such devastation and ongoing disasters, yet to be completely safe and unscathed. I almost feel guilty that we have been so lucky to have got nothing worse than a hard shake and a bit of a scare. Surreal feeling. ..though I did actually trip over and twist my ankle and pull my calf muscle as I rushed around in a flap just after the earthquake. Does that mean I was officially injured in the earthquake?

Devastated. Brought back all the memories from the 2004 Tsunami here. My thoughts are with everyone affected in Japan.

Even without the nuclear power stations potentially popping this is absolutely mind-bogglingly massive.

Japan will need to stand together to pull through this, a blessing in many ways that there are vast areas virtually untouched. I hope Britain gets its act together and sends far more assisatnce than just the rescue teams. Truly heartbreaking stuff for all involved.

Second explosion at nuclear plant and a third reactor has "lost all it's coolant", which doesn't sound good either. The US navy has pulled its ships further away from the coast having detected radiation.

Well I have just ventured outside with the hound for a bit of exercise and enjoyed the nice, fresh, radioactive air. I wonder if I will become infertile (not a problem), or grow breasts (or at least grow bigger moobs), or develop super-hero powers, or become some kind of mutant monster. Don't make me , you wouldn't like me when I'm !!

Some good news though shrewinjapan I have boosted your karma by 1, Deserved at this time IMO!!!
Glad you seem to be OK, hopefully the wind keeps pushing all the radioactive air into the Pacific, as they are saying on BBC.
I am totally flabbergasted at the scale of the disaster - watching all the news updates etc, some of the video clips of the Tsunami are unbelievable....it's like watching a disaster movie.
Some brave people trying to keep on top of the potential Nuclear disaster - makes you think that Football isn't the be all and end all!
Anyhow stay safe man.......Floreat Salopia

thanks for all the kind good wishes chaps! We had another pretty big (6.2 magnitude) quake (not considered an aftershock) last night, and this time it was centered much nearer my home (about 30 miles away maybe). Very scary!

Current Advice:
•Due to the evolving situation at the Fukushima nuclear facility and potential disruptions to the supply of goods, transport, communications, power and other infrastructure, British nationals currently in Tokyo and to the north of Tokyo should consider leaving the area. •At present this advice does not apply to Hokkaido due to its significant distance north of Tokyo. We will continue to review the situation.

The "evolving situation" at Fukushima Daiichi is that things are pretty much under control, and unlikely to be a danger to anyone. Looks like even the government want to spin us away from the rational conclusion - compared to what could have happened with a coal/gas/oil power plant suffering massive seismic events, nuclear power generation isn't an instant deathbomb to the world after all.
