I think this sums his attitude up perfectly.....he's now boycotting MUTV which originally broadcast his interview when he made the anti-Atkinson remarks: www.thedrum.co.uk/news/2011/03/04/19296-sir-alex-ferguson-boycotts-mutv/What's that about not shooting the messenger? It's clear Ferguson wants a sycophantic press of lapdogs hanging on his every word. The man may be a great manger but he has a deeply unpleasant bullying side to him.

Although it was decent comedy watching Fergie have a pop at a ref I do think its daft that he is getting into trouble for speaking his mind. Granted, it was a quality rant…
However, I think it’s crazy that managers are obliged to speak to the media, why should they? They should be able to pick and choose who they wish to speak to. Not only that but they are asked to do so pretty much right after the game when of course their emotions are all over the place. Fergie’s rant was decent viewing, very funny…but he shouldn’t be dragged out to answer such questions at that point. I really don’t think it’s too fair on the managers. They are ‘forced’ to speak to the press, right after the game when things may still be heated and yet get into trouble when they speak their mind or out of turn. Just doesn’t add up to me. Just confused as to why the needs of the press are afforded such importance?
Just wondering how early it was when Simpson spoke about the Town fans at Burton? Or were it at home against Darlo? Anyhows, was that directly after the game or did he have a moment to collect his thoughts? Just doesn't do them any favours at times...

as i've already mention fergie has already been fined and banned for having a go at clattenburg and yet here you are having a go at him for not having a go at him confused.com I was supporting him actually, kind of - I'm not rabidly anti-Man Utd like some on here. But as regards Clattenburg, yeah he criticised him when decisions went against Utd but said nothing (or supported him when the boot was on the other foot - ie Spurs, Wigan). That is being a hypocrite isn't it? You seriously are suggesting that he become the first manager to be charged for having a go at the ref for making a mistake in his sides favour Even comical ali doesn't go that far

There's a difference between saying the ref was rubbish and saying we never had a fair ref.
Ferguson obviously feels he's above the law, and boycotting his own TV station shows his level of childishness.
Chuck the book at him, a touchline ban for the rest of the season should make him learn.

I would say he was lapsing into self parody, but this isn't the first time he's boycotted MUTV, if I remember rightly. Your final paragraph hits the nail on the head. Great achievements but a history of petulant, unpleasant and bullying behaviour tarnishes his record somewhat.
