Anyone else just a little mystified by our captains start to the season ?
Clearly at fault for the Bradford goal on saturday and for two of Charltons last night.
He's a good player with lots of experience at this level but he needs to up his game a bit I reckon. No good banging in them in at one end if we defend like schoolboys at the other.
I'm sure he'll come good but i hope Turner doesn't shirk big decisions if the need arises.

Agreed, he is a real concern for me, hopefully he can turn it around.
CS must be wandering what he has to do to get a game, it will be interesting to see who he picks at Maccy.
A decision made more difficult because he wears the armband.

There is a concern, but GT says it can be sorted - hopefully pretty quickly

There's 5 new men at the back, there's bound to be the odd mistake. Would be far to rash to suggest dropping anyone now, GT has decided his prefered back 5, now he has to give them ample chance to gel

At the moment we appear to be able to score goals so conceding hasnt hurt us, however, when we come up against a side with a decent attack and defense and we let in sloppy goals there might not be any way back into the game. He wears the armband but from what I have seen so far he really does need to up his game a bit. I'm sure he will come good but we need to keep the winning habit and cut out the silly schoolboy mistakes.

Yep not too many concerns so far but Sharps form is one of them. O'Donnell looking better each game though

OK with the ball infront of him but anything where he has to turn and it's like watching the QE2 trying to make a 3 point turn, I'm sure though that GT and the coaches as well as the captain himself will get it sorted - that aside I'm impressed with O'Donnell.

I think both centre halves are just caught a tad too high up the pitch. If one dropped off in case the other lost the header I don't think this would be much of a talking point. I'm sure they'll start to do this at the weekend!

Thought Sharps was at fault for one and O'Donnell another.....

I agree I think Sharps has looked a bit out of sorts, but as already pointed out it is a new defence playing together so there will be a few teething problems.
I am delighted with O'Donnell so far, He should of done better with the first goal yesterday but overall i think he's looked really good. It is early days so lets see how he continues. With a bit of luck he'll power a few more of those headers in too!!!
Am i right thinking he is only on a 6 month contract?
Going forward we do look a real threat so if we do sure things up at the back maybe we can have a really good season.

Was I watching a different game... O'Donnel defo at fault for the first goal and if you want to be over critical at fault for the second goal too if you bare in mind we were in possesion and it broke down with him. In the group I sit with it was O'Donnell who were saying could be a risk of being dropped Sat but to be fair he looked stronger second half and overall I do like the look of him. I certainly wouldn't looking at dropping either. Played 2, won 2. Just work on it in training.
In respect to Sharp I said during the game, he looks a better footballer than defender

On the first last night I thought Sharps should have gone across to cover behind O'Donnell as soon as the ball was on it's way
Second Abbott got in front of Sharps a bit too easily
For second and third we backed off Martin instead of getting in earlier
I can't believe Crewe let O'Donnell go - did he play many games for them ?

Was it a blind school reunion?
O'Donnell (IMO) hardly put a foot wrong, and Sharps was culpable in 2 of their goals. He was also badly at fault in second half when they hit the bar (I think). He had a shocker of a game.
I am not necessarily saying drop him yet, hopefully he will play himself back to form, but as per a previous comment, its going to cost us at some point unless he improves or is dropped.

Surely that's his game, not beating a man!! I think we have enough pace on the wings to beat men with!!

I agree that I'm not convinced by Sharps defensively yet, although he is excellent on the ball and always looks to pass it out, rather than the hoofs we were used to from Kelvin and Coughs

Also been really impressed with Raven, can't recall him giving the ball away links well with Ainsworth and puts in some terrific blocks i noticed macalister cannot beat a man, although he does lay the ball off well Wheras the man he was in the team for is an expert on dribbling round players isn't he?

I'd be happy if we got another centre-back on loan.

Am a bit surprised at sharps struggling a bit as he's used to this league and played a lot of games for Rotherham last year. That said I think a little thought is needed about the role of a defensive midfielder - when Martin dropped off into midfield no one picked him up and disley and Mcallister don't seem natural sitting players.
It's great seeing us have a more attaking midfield but on some games a more defensive midfielder might be needed - maybe a role for sherriff?

If you watch Sharps carefully, when the ball is not active, he is always on he move, organizing and communicating with the rest of the defensive unit. He is a leader, the captain, and he is taking on the responsibilty. When our unit settles, and Sharps can focus on his own game a bit more, I believe he will be firmly back to to his best

Calm down people. It's still very very early into the season so players are still finding there feet and getting up to there usual standard of match fitness.

Given his track record, I'm confident he'll come good. It may just be that he's not used to knocking it around in the way Turner likes his teams to do.
I have to say that most of the comments from Crewe fans I saw re. O'Donnell weren't very complimentary, but it just goes to show that a) you can never tell how a player will look at a new club under a new manager until he's there and b) it's still early days.

Thought Odonnell looked a little unsure positionally and on the ball saturday, looked at fault for 1 maybe 2 of the goals last night as his body language indicated. Sharps looked off the pace saturday particularly for the goal and reports on last nights game would indicate he has yet to hit his straps.
On the flip side centre halves work as a pair and they should improve the more they play together, Sharps is clearly a good talker, O,donnell definately improved as Saturdays game progressed and it was a fantastic header for his goal last night .
Too early to judge either and anyway Gt is the best man to do that and in Gt we trust!

Only 2 games gone! Give them time to settle and get used to playing together massively important as a back 4 to have an understanding of each others game.
That said thought Sadler was excellent on Saturday one of several players close to mom for me, excellent defensively and never wasted the ball linking up well with the midfield and wasn't shy getting forward definitely going to have a career at a decent level imo.
How was the keeper last night not seen much said?

Ian Sharps was chosen by his peers for the PFA league 2 side last season alongside Craig Dawson as one of the best two centre backs in the division.
There were some good centre backs in the league last season who missed out too. Give the bloke a break ffs, it's only two games.

to be honest whilst i'm really excited about the brand of football played at the moment, I am concerned defence wise, especially when as mentioned we come up against a side (probably away) who wont give us many chances and create mayhem for us.
I could be wrong but I thought goal 1 was o'donnel's fault, 2 Sharps and 3 a collective between the pair,
Sharps looks very very slow, anyone seen more from him now if he's always like this or just preseason rust?
I think Sadler looks solid enough
Raven concerns me, good going forward and heading but gives away the ball alot (about the only one in the team who does)
O'Donnell, I dont know if anyone else picked this up but Sharps was constantly telling him to get in Line of the back four and a couple of times whilst marking.
Ben Smith, really doesnt come off his line to well
Other than that though great going forward

My Dad commented to me last last night that our defence is better with the ball than it is without it.
I think he was probably right, and it's a strange feeling - must be the first time it's been that way for many a season.
