I'd love to see what Cruyff thinks of it all.
Personally thought Webb was too lenient especially given that the Dutch made it quite clear before the game how they were going to set about it. Van Bommel's two-footed lunge on Iniesta and De Jong's assault on Alonso would have got reds in the Premiership. Add to that Sneider's studs in Busquet's thigh and Robben's petulance, the Dutch were lucky not to go down to 6 men and can have no complaints. Van Bommel lumping the ball deep into the Spanish half after Villa received treatment was shameful. Iniesta scoring the winner after at least two attempts from Van Bommel to break his leg was karma at its best.
Finally, you've got to the world cup final after so many straight victories and you go and play like that rather than trying to win it. How do you live with yourself? The Dutch stood for so much of what was right about the game, what a betrayal

Not at all owd lad, I was just expecting some of this "scheckshey football" you lot constantly go on about and ended up watching something reminiscent of pub footballers hoofing the ball / oponents / both or neither Maybe, but at least in 'pub football' they usually get a ref who can spot a corner when it smacks him in the gob

And, yes Cruyff has lowered himself too. Creature, your last paragraph is spot on mate, exalted for whats its worth.
