It is pants. I am on here scouring the messageboard for news of any new signings rather than watching this crap. Howard Webb's doing quite well but should have sent off one of the dutch for that ridiculous kick in the chest in the first half.

Well considering they have won their last 26 Games, i think they probably do deserve to be in the Final?

not a great Dutch side admittedly but Webb is getting conned by some typical spanish theatricals.

I actually thought Webb did a fairly decent job given the circumstances.
Yeah, he made the odd mistake, but anyone would have done in a game like that.
Anyway, credit to Spain, they were the better side and deserved to win.

The Dutch didn't really get it right on the night, for me, in all fairness. They were justified in being in the final though, they had played as well as anyone. I don't even think they claim to play total football anymore tbh.

I don't think either team played very well in the final, the best football on the eye in this tournament was played by Germany or Argentina. I don't think Spain really turned it on like they can at all, but somehow still won the tournament. The last WC 2 finals have been really poor.

The final is often a fairly cagey game due to what's at stake. The first one I can remember is probably 1990 and I honestly don't think that since then even one of them has been a really good game.
In fact, most of the older people I talk to tell me there hasn't been a really good one since 1982.
I honestly thought tonight was one of the better ones I've seen though. The first hour wasn't much to write home about, but the last hour, from 60 minutes to the end of extra time, was really pretty decent and I'm really glad there was a dramatic finish with a goal rather than penalties.

At the least Dutch were organised in their thuggery....it was like watching a Martin Allen 'coached' team.......jeeeezzz that first half was brutal to watch.
Howard Webb MOM for me. He was tested from the off, and did pretty well. Yes de Jong could well have seen a straight red, but he was on the spot for nearly all the incidents and credit to the linos for another good performance.
Spain the class apart, persistent in their play and got the rewards. In Torres, you can see what happens when these players are pressured or pressurise themselves to play at the big tournaments. 2 knee ops this season (probably this calendar yr) and he was majorly out of sorts. Looks like Spain have a number of exciting young players coming through too.

I thought Howard Webb did pretty well.
He should have just turned around and chinned the cheating diving Robben instead of booking him. No player should be allowed to chase after a referee like that.
The only "mistake" he made was not sending off either on of Van Bommel or De Jong in the first half, and both could have walked. How Van Bommel made it to the final without a red card is beyond me.
I didn't think it was a foul on the dutch player and it had very little to do with Spain scoring.

I really enjoyed the game. It was not as bad as some of the press seem to say. Yes the Duitch were thugs but football won through in the end with a thoroughly deserved win for Spain.

Thought Webb was MOM,did well to keep 11 Dutch players on the field as long as he did and you couldn't argue with the sending off.
Spain deserved it but it was a final fitting of a pretty ordinary tournament, not the best.

If my kids were still young i would have turned the T.V off before half time. If the press say that We should copy the Dutch style of play then I'd rather not. The Dutch total disgrace. Well done Howard Webb.

Thought Webb did well too. Extremely difficult game to referee considering the way the Dutch want about things. How they can look to criticize the referring is laughable, they could have easily been down to 10 at half time, 9 at full time. Many of the fouls unpunished by a card were worthy of one. The Dutch are a good side, a very good side. As someone mentions above, there record speaks for itself. And against any other side I’m sure we would have seen them at least attempt to play football. But it’s clear they thought they were unable to go toe to toe football wise with Spain so they simply went out there to stop Spain playing rather than looking to play themselves. That’s because Spain are simply too good for anyone else at the moment, there are on another planet. That’s a Dutch side who have won their last lord knows how many games reduced to playing anti-football , testament again to just how good a Spanish side this is…
We’ve had times in the past where the best side hasn’t gone on to win it, really pleased that didn’t come about this time around. If Holland would have seen that out and won it would have been a travesty.

I can see why De Jong wasn't sent off - it was a ridiculously high challenge worthy of one but it's not until the replay that the full ridiculousness of it becomes apparent.
But Van Bommel should definately have gone foul after foul after foul.

Really dissapointed with the way the Dutch behaved after the goal, at full-time and subsequently (although this was partly offset by the guard of honour they made for Spain as they walked down with the trophy).

I agree, though I thought the guard of honour was pathetic too - most of the Dutch players didn't even look the Spanish players in the eye, just stared at the ground and offered a limp hand like 8 year olds who had been told to apologise but didn't really mean it.

Van Bommel stood arms crossed, body facing away from the guard of honour thing - quite petty.
I also think the Dutch management have been petty in their criticism of Webb post match who, as pointed out , could have sent a couple of other Dutch players off. Effectively he was reffereeing a fight rather than a football match. He must have been hurt by the boos from the Dutch fans which greeted his presentation of his medal.

The Dutch set there stall out from their first game against Denmark.
There were some awful challenges in that game.
Undoubtedly they have some talented players, but their was a cynicism in their tackling that the old Italian and Uraguayan teams would have been proud of!!

The way the Dutch have treated Howard Webb is appalling.
They were lucky to see out half time without being down to 9 men. If anything Webb was too lenient.

Yes English football has gone backward in the last 25 years, but it hasnt gone as far backards as it has in Holland. How can the Cruff/Neskins/Van Der Kherkoff legacy decend into that bunch of hoofers, divers and foulers I've just witnessed SHAMBLES, and they never deserved to get to the final ! What's up mate? Did you have a little bet on Spain winning by more than 1 goal? I guess you must have done - never seen you so animated about anything if there's not winnings at stake
