Be great if we started getting players coming down from Scotland again. We had some very talented players over the years. I'd guess John McGinley was the last in 1989. Sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
If this is the type of player we're after we are in deep, deep trouble. Seen him when he was at Clyde he was utter useless, and even worse in the Second divison last season when he was at Peterhead.
RONALD - PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THIS CLOWN A CONRACT!

As for Emslie if he really is "a combative midfielder who can supply inch perfect passes and also score goals" as the link suggests then could be handy...

Steve Kerrigan!! He was in the year below me at my high school. King picked him over Chris Iwelumo when he had both on trial at the same time.
Agree it's great we are tapping into the Scottish market but does not sound like Chris (RglenShrew) is impressed with Emslie!

Has he got a coaching job? And not impressed - bit of an understatement !!

I would trust rglenshrew's view about him.
If this is what is rolling up at the Prostar we going to have a transfer window like last year - pure folly.
And we folks are going to have to suffer it all season. Watch all this very craefully guys!!
Come on Roland LET'S HAVE SOME QUALITY through the door

Remember he is on trial, if he is no good we won't sign him. Thats what trials are for. If we sign him then GT and JT obvisouly see some potential, something they can work with.

Calm down
Trewick has said himself that someone has recomended him so they are giving him a trial. If we had watched him and were actively trying to sign him then Id perhaps be worried judging by the posts on here but that isnt the case at all.
If he impresses in the trial then he may get a contract. If he is as bad as rglen says then presumably he wont
If people get worked up because we give someone a trial who may be rubbish then they are going to be very angry individuals

How much did we pay for Kerrigan?
We sold him for £40k did we not?

As someone who's watched him for half a season at a level possibly on par/just under this he was poor at best. And against better opposition with 100x better midfields he'll be non exsistant.
Not sure who Trewick's snout from Scotland is but it's fair to say we can be a million times better!
As for bringing players from Scotland yes, it's a great idea. Most will be cheap and there is one or two gems to be found, but there is the fair share of diddies too.

How much did we pay for Kerrigan? We sold him for £40k did we not? Cant remember how much we paid/brought him for but I remember when we sold him to Halifax and thinking how depressing it was that our better players were being sold to Halifax As for the Kerrigan/Iwelumo thing. I thought that we had Iwelumo on trial but then he went and scored a high profile goal against Rangers which brought him to the attention of a few other clubs so we couldnt compete. We then went and got Kerrigan instead

One of my most depressing days as a Town fan was when Kerrigan scored a last minute winner for Halifax at The Shay in the Great Escape season - was sure we were down walking away from that match.

To be fair justice was probably done with them scoring that last minute winner. A few minutes earlier we had equalised but only after we had kept the ball instead of giving it them back from a throw in after being kicked out for an injured player

Not that chilled - because of what happened last summer - basically the transfer window is going contribute a long way towards what we are able to achieve next season and the quality of entertainmnet we have for 9 months.
Correct to be very worried if this player is what we are aspiring too :-(

Correct to be very worried if this player is what we are aspiring too :-( Who has said we are aspiring to get this player? He is coming on trial after a recomendation If you show me a quote from someone at the club that said the below then I could perhaps understand your worry " "We are looking to sign Paul Emslie, he is just what we are looking for and think he will be the real lynchpin in our midfield for next season" However no one has said anything like that. As Ant said chill out Did I mention that the person who recomended him was Elder

You've got to be pretty brain dead to slate the club for giving a trial to a TEENAGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Correct to be very worried if this player is what we are aspiring too :-( Ask a different question PB - perhaps if we'd taken more on trial last year we wouldn't have ended up buying them...

I would rather Schumacher come than emslie because atleast Schumacher has played at this level, also his stats are better.

Reckon if Rangers kept him until he was 22 then he must have something about him. Big clubs are keen to jettison kids veey quickly if they don't think they'll cut it.
If he isn't good enough for STFC then I'm sure GT and Trewick will move him on. Just glad we're happy to look further afield than normal in the search for players.
