I think you are misinterpreting the word 'despot' GT is a very determined individual and knows his own mind. If things aren't working he will look at changing it, give him time and this club will improve on and off the field despot noun /ˈdes.pɒt//-pɑːt/ n [C] a person, especially a ruler, who has unlimited power over other people, and often uses it unfairly and cruelly If you check his off field attitude and behaviour whilst at Edgar Street i think you will find a very large majority of Hereford fans would say I got the meaning of the word spot on. Whatever his abilities as a coach and manager he is not a people person and i would not want him anywhere near the boardroom of our club.

And anyone who is determined can appear unfair or cruel by some, but if he turns out to be good for STFC there won't be many on here unhappy with the way he does it

Quite how someone would be inspired by the appointment of any assistant manager and fitness coach beats me, but each to their own. To me it's only sensible that Turner would want to work with people he knows and has worked with before. Why would anyone expect it to be different? What is it with people? I didn't think Simpson should have been sacked when he was, now I'm defending Turner on the first day of pre-season training. Does that make me a yes-man? Or is it just my instinct to go against the no-men? Can't believe there are so many glass-half-empty people already. We haven't even got the glasses out yet! Indeed, you're literally with some people, guess it is easier to find faults and problems before they actually exist - ie RW being an Octogenarian, doesnt seem to affect Rolf Harris, Clint Eastwood, Brucer Forsyth but some would have you believe RW is incapable. Let the pessimists have their little gripe though, I'm sure they'll be the first to say they told us so if things go wrong.

Turner will do alright with us. I doubt whether he's in it just to make a quick buck and hopefully he's with us for the long haul.
Objective 1 - to do whatever it takes to get us out of this division. 11 loanees if needed.
Objective 2 - build a squad for the future from the 8,000 gates we'll be getting in League 1 and the half a mill we'll get because of Joe playing in the qualifiers.
From there it's infinity and beyond.
Turner will invest in the loan players and he has the proven record in being able to manage that type of player successfully. On that basis I have renewed my season ticket although I don't think I could have sat through another season of dross if Simmo had stayed.
We're a certainty to go up this year. I am so certain that i'm going to invest a fiver on it.

Do you believe he's got unlimited power, I don't. I'm afraid you're on a different tack. I don't believe he has unlimited powers. If you were following the debate the question was that GT may be likey to move into the boardroom after his stint with the team has finished. Were that the case then I- and others- would have serious concerns as to the running of the club and it's interaction with it's fanbase. Hope that helps

Excerpt from your post below, infers that RW is likely to be towards the end of his reign as he cant manage due to 'not being in the best of health' (which you since refined to as being old and therefore limited!): I have a feeling Mr Turner may have been brought in to maybe move upstairs, the Chairman is not a young man and for all we know may not be in the best of health. You aren't that far away from his age bracket yourself, give him a break!

Point of note though, I do feel as if Mr Turner has been brought in to take over the reigns possibly next season.
Nothing to substantiate this of course.

Hope that helps I was talking about his current contract which is as manager. If, as is widely believed he moves to the board room after that, his role will completely change and his decisions will affect the whole club. Surely we should wait till this happens before judging, but hey this is B & A let's have a dig early. I am not basing my support for GT on his previous time at the club, which I remember well being an old git, but I genuinely believe he is good for the team at the present time. Anyway thanks for putting me back on track

'Average gates of 8000 in League 1'......... we only averaged 8500 or thereabouts in Division 2 and that was against the likes of Newcastle, Leeds, Chelsea, West Ham, Birmingham, Sunderland etc etc with large away followings. 'a certainty to go up' ......lets get those expectation levels up in the stratosphere

Minor, football has changed since the 80's and STFC has changed a lot
I remember mid to late 90's that we were averaging 2,500 with a gate over 3,000 considered a big crowd. Now gates under 5,000 are considered disapointing
I certainly dont think we would average 8,000 if we got to L1 although if we did well and there was still some big teams in there Id expect not far off 7,000
We are not a big club and anyone who thinks so is living in a dream world. But we have developed as a club IMO and that has increased the fanbase

We'll be getting 6 and a half under Turner this season. We were only getting 5.5 under Simmo because it was about as entertaining as watching paint dry. People can forgive bad results but they don't invest their hard earned in being bored. 8,000 will be the norm in League One Full house and an extension needed in the Championship 'a certainty to go up' ......lets get those expectation levels up in the stratosphere It's all about the confidence

I can't see them selling many more - it is now cheaper to buy for each match than get a season ticket

I saw your post about that Scooter on shrewschat, surprisesd not more has been made of it
Only reason I can think of people still purchasing season tickets is the inconvience of having to purchase a ticket for each game. Or perhaps with the cost of either petrol of having to go and collect or the fees if paid by cards, then it may not work out much cheaper

Cost of Season ticket now (Category A) = £448.50
Cost of tickets purchased per match (Category A) purchased in advance = £19 x 23 = £437
Cost of Season ticket now (Category B) = £379
Cost of tickets purchased per match (Category B) purchased in advance = £16 x 23 = £368

I didnt realise how much of a jump it was for season ticket prices:
Category A
£315 > £339.90 > £447.50
Category B
£262 > £288.40 > £379
I know most people would have got the early bird deal but if your waiting to see on signings before making a decision, then its a hell of an increase

I was reliably informed that season ticket sales are approaching the 2500 mark (as of yesterday), that figure maybe incorrect but if not then sales are surely down aren't they?

You aren't that far away from his age bracket yourself, give him a break! Just want to mention that there may be something in the comment about RW not being in the best of health. This has been commented from a few sources (not on here). I won't elaborate apart from saying that if true succession planning might be happening or necessary, even if on a temporary basis. I emphasize this has just come via word of mouth though from a couple of unconnected sources. I would be delighted if these 'rumours' could be disproven. May I say RWs health is fine he plays football twice a week and is currently fitter than alot of people. Rumours like this are not pleasant and affect peoples friends and families so there is no truth whatsoever with any rumour like this currently going around!!!!!

well said cotonshrew i've had to move a few posts this year that contained personal rumours and from the feedback i get from a couple involved with the club, i kind of sense mr chairman will be offering to go 15 rounds with the next person who spreads rumours and i doubt they will get past round 1 can i just say this sort of rumour stands for anyone, not just club officials imagine if you read on here something about a family member of yours it would hurt a lot if it was false and even more so if it were true think on

Christ this thread gets better. I've had lectures, pms and phone calls.... I suppose I should give in, our Chairman obviously drinks from the fountain of youth and has the powers of Superman. Thus he will still be leading us in 2035 when we reach the final of the European Cup.

Right, so did you know that the Chairman has a full head of hair? I hate that sort. I'm thinking of starting a fat, slapheads, with big noses against the Chairman group, and you can't stop me, so sucks to you.

They must surely have changed their mind on match day prices, by keeping them the same, and that has distorted the season ticket offer
