We can't have a winter break without fewer teams / less games.
That means less Chmapions League / Europa league and no league cup.
Also, with our climate, we definitely run the risk of having a "Week off" sometime in January when pitches are playable, followed by a freeze for a couple of weeks, which then pushes more fixtures to the end of the season.

Monkee you might not like Chris Waddle as a pundit, but listen to this and see what you think - www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00t2ynq/World_Cup_South_Africa_2010_Out_of_Africa_Where_Next_for_English_Football/i thought he spoke a lot of sense and is someone clearly with passion who is attempting to do more than simply ask whether the manager should stay or go. anyway I also don't think a winter break is necessarily the answer. As I said earlier I'm not sure whether our injury record is any worse than other nations as i'm not as aware of other leagues, but i do know that the spanish had significant worries over Torres, Fabregas, Andreas Iniesta and Marcos Senna for starters. Obviously the first 2 play in the english league but the other 2 are from la liga. By the way with scrapping the league cup you do realise that a lot of the big english team's who make up a large part of the english team don't play their first choice players anyway? So would that really make a difference to the england team? And if that competition is scrapped that would lead to less potential income for lower division clubs including our own Shrewsbury Town?

If it does come to the players being tired after a long season then the number of teams needs to be reduced, meaning the number of league games is reduced. But since the Premier League holds so much power we have no chance of this happening. This is the league, remember, who aren't looking to reduce the games played, they are looking to send sides off packing around the globe to play an additonal game...
Those that are running the top flight clubs simply do not care about the national side, they are only concerned with the amount of money they can bring into their club...
A winter break might be open to them though. As already mentioned, it would open up the chance for the club to tour...if they made more money through that than games held over the holiday period then they'd jump at the chance I reckon.

In affect there a slight winter break - premier league clubs knocked out of the fa cup in the 3rd round don't play in the weekends when the 4th and 5th rounds are scheduled. Liverpool had it this last season.
