I'd never even been to Shrewsbury (the town) when Turner was manager so I defer to everyone else on the potential Turner effect and his past achievements.
It's an exciting change and of course I really hope it works out. Have to say though, that it worries me that some people's expectations will run too high, although I guess that tends to happen with any new manager. In general, I don't think going back is a good idea and I can't think of too many precedents for managers making a successful return to a former club.
I hope this will be one and Turner and his team will have my full support. I'm definitely not setting up an "I told you so" post for later, just have a nagging doubt that I hope is proved entirely wrong.
I certainly won't get carried away - I'm always optimistic in August anyway so there'll be no real Turner feelgood factor for me then. If he's the manager that takes us beyond a good start and keeps us collecting points through autumn and winter, then I might think we're really getting somewhere. But if we're playing decent football I'll be patient.

But if we're playing decent football I'll be patient. Good post this. I'm delighted to see Turner return to the club, he used to live next door to my auntie in Town and was a genuinely nice bloke who always stopped to chat about the Town. We couldn't wish for a more genuine, solid manager with the clubs best interests at heart. l get misty eyed thinking of some of the games we played under Turner and the success we had. However football has moved on a massive amount since then and the mention of a "returning to the championship" (admittedly from fans if not the board and new manager) would be a concern. Our new ground and facilities are great, but are hardly unique now and its going to take a great deal of hard work and a certain amount of luck to see us get us back to that level, and I'd hate to see those memories of the 80s diminished by things not working out this time, or by us getting carried away and expecting immidiate success. For me I'd see Turners role as one of steadying the ship, investing in a good coaching and scouting set-up and getting the club linked back into its supporters (loggerheads on the shirt please Mr Turner!) Then within a few seasons passing the managers job onto a younger coach whose learn't his trade under Turner. Welcome back Graham! (We're probably appoint Robbie Savage as player manager now!)

"He's coming home, he's coming home...TURNER'S COMING HOME... (sing along) Please, please, please no re-runs of possibly the most crimgeworth song ever sung on the riverside though chaps -(To the tune of 'No one quite like grandma' "Turner we love you, Turner we do, Though we may play miles away I think of you, and one day when we're champions we'l look back and say, There's no one quite like Turner he has helped us on our way" Arghhh, how bad was that - the whole Riverside (like several 100) belting that out as we beat some of the better teams in the land.

Huge gamble by Mr Turner and more importally the club. Although gutted ain't either Ince or Sturrock I of course wish Graham the best of luck. Definitely a gamble by Turner because of the 'legend' status he enjoyed here, I just hope he can achieve half of what he did in his first spell here. There's no doubting that the Hereford players loved playing under his leadership and he achieved far more at Edgar Street than what a club of their size really should have done, he has the eye to pick a good player and he wont need to rely as heavily on the loan market as he did at ES. I wouldnt be surprised if one of his first signings was a certain Lionel Ainsworth. Most definitely the most exciting news to happen to STFC in years and welcome home GT Pity it wasn't Lionel Messi

Indeed, I like the 'reported' structure of Turner pulling the strings of a young and dynamic coaching staff...brings much to the table - old methods and experience with hopefully some blue sky thinking...!

Well Roland has finally got his man and hopefully his patience will be rewarded
It will be the back room team that will have my focus.
Who will it be? DH and MJ or 2 ex GT players?

DH and MJ or 2 ex GT players? 3rd time lucky, or is it 4th time? Agree about the backroom staff, that's what I'll find interesting. It will give us a clue to how the Club could approach it's future employment of managers.

He had a visit round the Powerleague site today and was extremely impressd with the facillties at the club. Described them as Championship standard and talked with Roland aboout taking us as high as that. You could tell he was happy to be home and has a great sense of affection for the club. Welcome home Graham!!! Christ. GT is going to be treated like a cross between the Queen Mum and Nelson Mandela until the first blow-up on the road at least. Did a little girl welcome GT with a bouquet of flowers when he arrived?

I was in my infancy during Turner's glory days at Town, so hoping that this is a true second coming and his real glory days lie ahead of us.
Welcome back to the Meadow, Graham. It's changed a bit!
