its a given that if steve cotterill was available he would be the choice BUT as it seems highly unlikely then as i said on a previous thread i like....chris powell, mark cooper, paul peshisolido, and add paul ince.........cp would be new to managment but is well respected....

Cotterill won't happen - he will stay at Notts County or move to position League 1 or above.
Sturrock and kevin Summerfield - possibly
Graham Turner in a Director role only
To be honest none of the others really inspire me, and the Board should have shown patience and kept Paul Simpson.
Is there a manager in that list who you think would get us promoted next season?

Obviously the board didn't think Simmo would get us promoted next season thus the search for a new manager Fred!

Strong characters, tough taskmasters, not particularly likeable but don't give a s**t about that if they take us up.

Sturrock for me. About time we had a Jock as manager again. If he does half as well as Ian MacNeil or Jake King then.....
Sorry, i'll get my coat.....

I'm going to say the same as I said earlier and Dean Windass. Followed by the Sturrock-Summerfield combo and then Graham Turner.

Sturrock & Summerfield - Wouldn't mind. If he could get us promoted then I really wouldn't care about the type of football played, and at least Sturrock is proven at this level.
Ince - No, I just don't think he's a good manager and he seems like a moron.
Turner - Like a shot but just can't see it happening.
Peters - Don't think we should be going in for him, it wasn't working at all at the end of his last spell.
Windass - Seems like a nice bloke but just can't see him being a tactical genius somehow...
Hughes - Would obviously be a gamble, and nobody can say whether he'd do well or not, but it's a gamble I'd take.
Taylor - Isn't he definitely staying at Bradford?
Cotterill - See Turner.
Venus - Another gamble but if we were to take a gamble, I'd prefer it to be on someone who knows the club.
Allen - No.
Atkins - Not convinced by his managerial record (which admittedly I've just had to look up) and he can't have been out of management for four years for no reason.
I think it's between Ince, Sturrock and Hughes realistically, and personally I would take Hughes but only on a year-long contract.
I don't want to tempt fate but I really can't see us getting relegated next season, so what's the worst that can happen? Another season of mediocrity. But he knows the club well, obviously knows the youth teamers inside out and would be a cheaper option without bringing the Simpson-esque ego and attention that Ince would bring. I reckon it's a gamble worth taking, maybe with a more experienced assistant.
So yeah, Hughes.

Sturrock, although you could make a good case for several of the candidates mentioned. Fred, didn't you post after Saturday that it was good to see Delaney make a tactical change and that Simpson probably wouldn't have done this in time? I don't understand how you can square that with the idea that Simpson was a good manager. As for the list, Sturrock I honestly think would make a good fist of it and would have us challenging quickly. If you look at his record (and I admit I had to look it up myself as there were certain bits I didn't know: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Sturrock), it's really very good. 5 promotions with 4 different clubs from 3 different leagues. In fact, it is no exaggeration to say that he's achieved promotion literally whenever it was possible at every club he's managed. By this I mean that the only clubs he hasn't got promoted - namely Dundee United and Southampton - were already in the top flight at the time. That's really quite an impressive record.

Hope Powell Good call - no idea what would happen on the pitch but imagine the PR benefit! We'd be the biggest story in football for a few weeks. I was hoping Grimsby would go for that option earlier this season. Excellent coach and I'm sure it'll happen somewhere with Hope or someone else, sooner or later. Certainly hope so and not for gimmicky reasons. Although probably not my first choice, I think Mark Venus looks a good candidate. Worked with Mowbray and their teams played good football. Should have some good contacts in Scotland and the Midlands. Cotterill's a non-starter. A deal will be done at Notts.

paul ince for me kept macclesfield from what looked like defo relagation a couple years back, and mk dons up first time and playoffs in second year. didn't work out at blackburn, but i think he is a manager that will motivate and discipline the players and play some good football. maybe then we can link up with wolves and get some players from them

Graham Turner with Dave Hughes as his Assistant. With Dave Hughes to take overafter 2/3 seasons.
Turner knows this division well, knows how to get a team promoted on little money and a lot of know how, and I would hope he would be given time to get the club being run the old Shrewsbury way again by promoting the manager from within.

Sturrock has achieved at a list of clubs and I think that had he not taken a backroom role at Plymouth he would now be at a bigger club than ourselves.
Turner - can't see it.
Cotterill would probably have a chance at a league 1 club at least, Ince also.
I like Dave Hughes and he has done a good job with the youth team but I would sooner keep him there for now.
Gary Speed, highly thought of at blades, always seems to speak sense. Can see him breaking into management in the next 12 months and possibly at championship level.
Lots of possible gambles being linked. There is always a chance we could unearth a gem with an inexperienced manager but I would feel more assured with a manager with experience, particular at our level. Sturrock knows our league, has success at a number of clubs, a good reputation and links with some big teams. Who knows what will happen to our team over the next 12 months but on paper I feel he is the best on the list (and hopefully actually interested).

Ince is currently serving a 5 match touchline ban. MK Dons now have history - they have the worst discipline record of any club in the last 10 years. They have been fined a record 4 times this season for having 7 or more bookings in a game. This has cost them £25,000 so far.

Graham Turner as all the knowledge, tactical awareness, man management skills needed not just to get out of this league but also to have us seriously contending for the play-offs in league 1. He identifies the right type of players needed to create a good balance over the pitch and nows how to change things when you come up against the ugly playing teams. He has a great respect from our supporters and would be very much welcomed. Its a no brainer for me.
