Following the late, late show from Exeter I went into a bit of a debate with a couple of pals who insisted Quinn should go NOW, I mentioned to them that it wouldnt make the slightest bit of difference to the season and what chairman in their right mind would sack a manager whilst in a play-off position when the season isnt even finished, even if we havent been playing consistently well.
I'm not JQ's biggest fan as the team may look on paper one of the best, if not the best, squad in the Conference but there seems to be no passion or spirit in the side, even Scott Hiley, the Exeter right back said before yesterdays game on Exeters official website that our squad does not have the 'spirit and togetherness' that the Exeter squad has. Last year we had no passion, fight or spirit as we just tumbled out of the Football League with a sickening whimper, whereas Exeter actually won their last three games despite finishing second bottom, when it comes to this stage of the season where the going gets tough, the same old frightened and passionless Shrewsbury Town, whether its managed by Ratcliffe or Quinn seem to wilt under the pressure and collapse pathetically. I also noticed the ecstatic reaction from all the Exeter players as they all hugged together following yesterdays game, to be fair, even after a Town away win I very rarely see this kind of reaction from the whole team, from a few yes, Lowe, Moss, Tinno, Sam in particular, but no one else really.
My pals also suggested we should p**s the Conference with the spending budget JQ had, but you cant really buy your way out of the Conference, it Rushden five seasons to do it but even then they had to do it with a bloody good fight, you dont neccessarily need the best squad, you just need a squad who is prepared to bust a gut for the cause, to make life as hard as possible for the opponents, the Conference is the hardest, most physically draining league I've ever seen Town play in and I'm not convinced everyone in the squad has that 'fighting' quality needed, so this fault is ultimately down to JQ and his coaching staff.
So after this extremely long rant, my conclusion is, wait until the end of the season to decide JQ's fate, and I think its not going to have a happy ending, so perhaps JQ should go, I dont neccessarily want a good Shrewsbury Town side, I just want one full of energy, guts, stubborness, pride and passion. It seems to hold the key to getting out of this league.
