After watching our truely woeful performance at Aldershot I was very impressed by their number 10. After looking at some stats it got me thinking about Nathan Elder. Marvin Morgan had pace, a good first touch, height and finishing skills that we're very good at this level. After forking out a rumoured 100k on Elder I was wondering if we had offered that to Morgan would Aldershot have accepted and we would have got a better deal? I think Morgan was everything we wanted from Elder and was wondering what everyone else thought? www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=40600

Was very impressed with Morgan at our place, everything I hoped Elder would be
For the record, Im led to believe that Elder was nowhere near £100k, nor the 90k which is normally the magic figure banded about

if elder was half as good as morgan then he would still be better than k bright !
with hibbo injured we maybe could have needed elder (to at least hold the ball up)

Nothing concrete I must say but most people Ive spoken to have said around the £50k mark Roland said in the new season statement that it 'was approaching six figures.' In the Burton programme it says 'That is why we continue to make a very significant investment in the team and to support the manager in every way we can. Just this week that has included fees approaching six figures for further strengthening of the squad.' Morgan was one of the best players I've seen this season along with Colin Daniel. Very similar type player to Elder but I know which one I'd want in my squad.

I laughed at the song the shots fans was singing about marvin.
(Tune of The animals went in 2 by 2)
Marvin's got a great big ___ Marvin Morgan! Marvin's got a great big ___ Marvin Morgan! blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah Marvin Morgan shots number 10!
I p**sed myself laughing hearing the first few lines.

Think Morgan has looked good when he has played against us. The other interesting thing about him is he was picked up by Aldershot through none league clubs, but once in their team seems to have improved as a player.
Its something I'd like to see us doing, even with the new ground we can't always sign ready made players but need to invest in lower league players and improve them.

The youth team too, there are 4 players in the youth team tht i think now should be edged in to give as some spring.

It's worth noting that up until this season, many people(myself included) didnt have a very high opinion of Dave Hibbert, but he is superman this season. Always time for players to improve and shake off a poor reputation

I'd have thought Tevez would be less the norm and more a one off given the legal rumblings over third party ownership of players...
Not sure I'm a massive fan of Marvin Morgan, yes he had a good game, however we were so far from being at the races that we often struggled to get out of our penalty box let alone half.

Agree Morgan was good at the Prostar, but Coughlan isn't the quickest. When Langmead marked him for the last 20 minutes he wasn't so good. But certainly better than Elder that's for sure. Simmo has gambled a bit on our strikers this season. Elder had just come back from a very bad injury to his face and had not played many games. Bright was a striker playing in some rubbish league abroad, or was he a striker ? Robinson was not an out and out striker, Cureton had not played many games this season. he has' hoped 'these signings would come off but have they, no. They say learn from your mistakes, but is Simmo learning. I hope he thinks a bit harder when buying his next striker, and watches him playing live a couple of times.

It is easy to blame the strikers for not scoring but: You need a steady pairing of strikers which we haven't really had for 3 seasons. You need players creating the opportunity to score which we definitely haven't had this season. Since his arrival Simpson hasn't created a striking partnership, and has not signed a creative midfielder or winger.

quite often, clubs include wages and signing on fees in the final figure to big up the player they just bought. You sure about that Monkee? John Terry is only on 130k a week IF they have a clean sheet, win and are top of the league, and some other add ons. Some Premier League players are only on £8k a week, but stay up and score 10+ goals and suddenly you can spin that they would get £35k a week. PR and spin is everywhere - it can only cost you £14.10 to fly Easyjet to Milan, but if you get the train to gatwick, include hotels, food and all expenses you could spin your trip is more like £300.00. Portsmouth however pay Champions League semi finalist wages at a club that turns over Championship amounts.

interesting comments re bright and riza, so you beleive that bright playing in greeces top flight makes him a worst player than those in the 2nd div in the uk, the forth tier, yet you also state that you have no midfield and there is no service to your strikers, one of the biggest problems i have seen in this division is that every body is playing to get out of it so they play for them selves there is no team togetheress, players should first put their team position up then think about how good they my be , bright can certainly play better if there was more passing and movement around, sometimes players make it difficult because they either dont see the easy way or do to much any way never mind it will sort its self out one day im sure.
