Most people will be aware that on saturday it will be the Grand National at Aintree. One of the highlights of the sporting calender. Who's everyone backing? I'll be putting a few bets on saturday morning and will probably end up putting a few on the football while i'm at it!! Hopefully that'll pay for Northampton next week It starts at 4.15pm and the BBC's coverage begins at 1pm on BBC ONE and BBC HD.

Cerium is one i've got my eye on. He finished 5th last year and ran an entire circuit with a fractured skull www.sportinglife.com/racing/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=racing/10/04/07/RACING_National.htmlNot guaranteed a run yet though as he needs two horses to come out of the race (ballotted 42 and there's only 40 runners). His connections may even pull out their other horse Mr Pointment to get him in the race if only one other drops out. Same prep as last year, Gold Cup then National. Last time there were some stamina doubts about him but he obviously proved that all wrong so a bit more may be made of him this time and I suspect he's been aimed at the race. 66/1 is way too big a price for a horse that finished 5th with a fractured skull !

Comply or Die is a decent shout as well. Came 2nd last year. I might be wrong, but I think the winner last year was something like 100-1.

should be banned for animal cruelty. Your lot only ban animal sports if it effects the rural wealthy set, never would they interfere with the dole dossing Scousers day out.

King Johns castle. 40/1. Irish horse I believe. The Irish had a poor Cheltenham by their standards, so perhaps their luck with change.

Done Mon Mome at 15.5/1 and trying to get 20/1 on State of Play on Betfair at present, and just because Mr1972 *occasionally* gets it right I'll have a couple of quid on Royal Rosa at around 150/1.

You obviously like a gamble been give a tip from a usually reliable source, but as with all tips make your own mind up, all I can say is Im having a good bet on it. Cheltenham 14.30 Lead On, should be about 7/1. It one of Hobbs`s with no recent form but "apparently", it is strongly fancied within the yard.

If it keeps drying out perhaps to the point where it's the firm side of good then the field can be cut right down to just two based around a few solid trends
There are only 2 horses in the race that have won over at least 3 miles on gd/fm or firmer in a Class 2+ race, aged 8,9,10, carrying under 11st in the National :
Backstage - won a 3m chase at Perth on gd/fm (class 2 13k)
State of Play - won a 25f race at Wetherby on gd/fm (class 1 51k 2008)
Other notable fast ground horses who fall down on either age and/or class of win are :
Ollie Magern - aged 12, won a 25f chase at Wetherby on gd/fm (class 1 51k 2007)
Hello Bud - aged 12, won a 28f chase at Wincanton on gd/fm (class 3, 8k) but also notably won the Scottish National in 2009 on good.
I've have a bit on Backstage in addition to the little fun bet on Cerium whos fractured skull 5th last season could well be this years National story.

The fact it has only run three times in the past 2 seasons gives you a bit of a clue. Having said that, like its owner it call pull out a performance. I put a line through it at the Midlands Grand National last year at Uttoxeter. It looked the winner 3 out and was just touched off after the last. Last years winning trainer and a big price might be worth a pound each way. Cannot believe no one has mentioned Black Apalachi. Going well last year when unseating at Beechers second time round. Got on this at 38s two months ago. Also worth a small punt is Joe Lively. Trainer father and jockey son Colin and Joe Tizzard are always worth checking out, currently 130. My Will ew Comply Or Die ew Tricky Trickster ew All will stay the trip anyway Hope you went to Boyles, paying out to 6th place on the National

I've gone for Niche Market. The Jockey's colours are blue and amber so bound to win . Also had a punt on Dream Alliance because he was born on an allotment or something. The expert has spoken!

Oh well, made three bad mistakes that probably cost him the race, they were deffanetly trying with him judging by the ride the jockey gave him

Great shame for Ruby, he took a big fall off Celestial Halo in the 2.50 race and got trampled on by another horse. Expect Johnners to take his place on the favourite
