I see this was voted no.3. in the BBC's best british sit com of all time. Was the voting rigged? Does anyone think its any good? I'm amazed it made the top 50 let alone the top 3. Better than fawlty towers pah! & why didn't Father Ted make into the top10 surely better than open all hours or the good life.

Voting is open to all generations, i would see the three you mention as targeting the elder vote.
Whereas Father Ted would not i imagine.
And everyone likes 'Only Fools and Horses' don't they?

I woildn't have Vicar of Dibley in my top 10 let alone my top 3. It's ok for a light laugh, but it's nothing special

I watched the top 10 and I think everyone in the studio was amazed that it got to number 3. Its not terrible, but there must be dozens of shows better than that - erverything else inthe top 10 for a start.
I would never have guessed the winner though!

My daughter loves Dibley and I find it a good laugh, but even I was amazed it reached top 3, had something to do with the celeb standing it up for it

Me and my girlfriend watched it and just as much fun was guessing what types of people voted for each programme.
How on earth did the Royle family come so low?
A good programme, although the process of deciding the top 10 was far too drawn out....

Forgot about Alan Patridge, very good The whole thing was just a load of self congratulatory rubbish tho...every single one of the top 10 was a BBC programme. Shock.

I forgot The Young Ones, and Absolutely Fabulous. That brings my list to 7!
Some of the characters in The Vicar of Dibley are good, though.

Reading the thread and thought - my god I'm old.
Then----At last - someone mentions "The Young Ones"
Spike Milligan's Queue 8 (?) had some classic Spike humour.
Monty Python had it's moments.
Recent visits saw me watching The Royale Family.
I'd also include Only Fools and Horses in my top 5

Suppose its a matter of taste Thought Vicar of Dibley was truly excellent though Fawlty Towers shades it for me as for Fools and Horses I would put it at about the same point we finished in the league pyramid last season

the reason they were all BBC is that ITV produces drivel comedy. Apart from Rising Damp, I'm struggling to think of a single decent ITV sitcome. Channel 4 has produced one or two decent efforts in the last decade
I assumed it was the younger generation voting for Dibley since they couldn't remember some of 70s stuff.

Amazed that nobody has mentioned 'The Office' - surely the best thing on TV over the last 5 years - and what about Dad's Army (showing my age here)
German POW: So 'vot is your name?
Mainwaring (sp?): Don't tell him Pike!!
Has me in stitches me every time.
Top 5:
1. The Office 2. Dad's Army 3. One Foot in the Grave 4. Fawlty Towers 5. Cheers
