Afternoon ladies and gents,
Ant, tricky, afro and fagin here from the hotel in Barca.
In our first appearance in the European Supporters Cup we finished 5th. Our results were:
Athletic Bilbao 3(1) - (1)1 STFC - Two late goals saw us defeated against the eventual winners. Our goal came from Pricey when he scuffed an effort in the bottom corner after the buffon in goal slapped an attempted punch straight at him. Other notable moment was when, with the score at 2-1, debutant Gaz Williams (Amber Nectar) was sent off for smacking the Bilbao keeper after an altercation in the penalty area started by Pricey...
Espanyol 1(0) - (1)3 STFC - Goals from Phil Thomas (pen) and Ali Nichol (2) were followed by a late consolation goal for the hosts.
Spain UK 3(1) - (1)1 STFC - Another two late goals saw Salop defeated by last year's winners and this year's eventual 3rd placed side. Our goal came from another Phil Thomas penalty.
5th place playoff: Catyluna 0(0) - (0)2 STFC - Goals from Aleix Gwilliam and Ant Thomas rounded off a good debut tourny for the lads in Blue and Amber.
Much carnage followed as the sides went to an eat and drink all you can event, with the Bilbao and Shrewsbury lads leading the chanting all night... we should get an invite back
Returning to the football we have come to the following conclusions from playing in Spain
1) The refereeing is nothing short of shocking (1 red card and 1 yellow for us and we nearly won the fair play trophy!!!) - Bring back Raymondo
2) Spanish players are moaning, diving and insulting on the pitch but want to shake your hand and hug you at full time!!
3) It's effing hot!! Although the majority have some how staved off the sun burn, rock on.
Finally a mention to a young spanish lad who was walking to the same area of bars that we were at 2am last night. Very mild mannered and friendly to us group of English, who was he?
Luis Garcia, effing priceless!!
We won't bore you anymore, but be warned that plenty more posts regarding this weekend will follow in the pursuing days.
For now, signing off, Ant, faginy, Afro and Gerry. Adios.
