Until last night I was still (just) in the IBS. I was clinging to the hope (derived more from the heart than the head) that we were still a good team playing badly and that we still had time - even if we couldn't catch Chester we would come good in the play-offs.
Last night I finally lost that hope. We're not a good team playing badly, we're a poor team.
And I honestly now believe, with our current form, our injuries, our lack of self-belief, our inability to raise our game for big occasions, our opponents over the next few weeks, exeter not getting points docked and so many players under-performing (in or out of position).....that we will not even make the play-offs.
I've never really been one for sacking managers to fix short term problems, but Quinn should go now. This season is over (even if by some miracle we do make the play-offs, it will just prolong the agony), so get someone else in now and give them chance to look at the players before deciding what to do with them over the summer.
I feel as low today as I did the morning after the Carlisle game last year. An over-reaction?? Perhaps, but the feeling of being let-down is just as great.

echoing my thoughts exactly there i am probably, along with Ant and Phil etc, one of the most positive people on this board, but there comes a time when enough is enough. a lot of people gave up after telford but i was prepared to give them another chance in the league, and how do they repay us?? they will not deserve the 2000+ travelling fans on Saturday. its a good job going to the football at the moment is more about going to see your mates and socialising otherwise i wouldn;t being going for the rest of the season

Spot on faginy - To underperform in front of 200+ fans on sat will be criminal - and probable the fianl nail in the coffin for this season - since Daggenham and my crusade for everything negative - even I had thought we would still come good and prove me wrong ( i so whished the had!!!!) up untill telford that is - cant be anyone left not who thinks we have a snowballs chance in hell of escapeing this division - a long hot horrible summer awaits boys!!!!

I think a lot of people felt exactly the same last night it seemed to bring the pain of last year back. Anyway a win on Saturday and STFC will be flavour of the month again

Anyway a win on Saturday and STFC will be flavour of the month again If only it was that simple. Ive seen too many cr*p performances this year to even think that we have the makings of a good team again.

1st post on the site (although i read regularly). Oh boy, where to begin eh? I think the play offs are (today) still achievable, however defeat on sat. makes that improbable. Even if we do make the play offs and goodness if we even negotiate those successfully what happens next season? Quinn is building a team that may, at best, get us out of this hell-hole but we go no further. He (Quinn) is inept. Possesing a coaching qualification does not automatically assume that one then posseses the ability to manage people. Ask Alex Ferguson how many UEFA badges he sat? We have changed almost the whole team from last season and its not working. How long Mr.Quinn?

I like your confidence Simon. The problem is we don't get results against the decent teams in this league. Looking at our remaining 9 games there aren't really any easy ones left.
Hereford (a), Barnet (a), Telford (a), Morecambe (a), Farnborough (a) Chester (h), Exeter (h), Gravesend (h), Stevenage (h)
We have managed just 3 wins in our last 14 away and 4 of those away games are about as hard as we could get. Of the home games, we have lost to 3 of the 4 so far this season.

Well last season 72 points was needed for the last play-off spot, so it doesn't look you have much to do to get a play-off place.
Gravesend at home is on paper your easiest fixture, which you should win given your record against bottom half opponents.
Then possibly wins against Stevenage home and Farnborough away, plus two or three draws from the harder games (Chester, Exeter, Hereford etc.).
In 2002 we finished 5th with 67 points so you might need still less points, however that was before it became two teams (incl. play-offs) from the Conference.

perhaps we'd sue exeter or the conference if we were 6th and exeter were in the play offs?
Would exeter be allowed to compete in the play offs anyway?

i, like many, lost the faith of town returning to the league first time last night. i am thinking these games in hand are blinding us of our true ability (i.e. very little) just like last season. even if we do make the play-offs then how the hell are we meant to beat teams like aldershot, barnet, chester/hereford or exeter? ?? sack quinn NOW and get a manager who has an idea of what it takes to get promoted! we are still in with a shout, but we must make changes before its too late

Yes we will (gritted teetch) - we've got to - or all the pain this season will be in vain. I agree with Exkeeper - Hereford could catch Chester - now that would be interesting

Yes you will. You are still too good a side to miss out, rather see you there than Barnet or Exeter, you are a better side than either of them, probably better than us too. Hope to see you in ther playoffs, don't forget you still have games in hand. You may not go up though.
