I can't remember which of you lads recommended the "Secret Shropshire" website. (Was it you, Harmerhill?)
It's great. As you say, it takes time to explore- but lots of interesting things on it.
Actually, I couldn't find much about my Home Town- Market Drayton- but plenty about the Oswestry area where my paternal Grandparents lived.
I'd be interested in going to see the Cambrian Railway Exhibition at Oswestry.

There really isn't much to see at all in the railway 'museum', its just a small place which makes most money by chrging a couple of quid for use as a car park.
Most of the blokes who work their are ex-railway men, and probably have some good stories to tell but their isn't much to see in the way of railway, they only own a tiny bit of track and have very little funding.
went their on a school visit a year or so back and fair do's they do the best they can and have some good plans for what they'd do if they had the money, but without the backing from council.funding they can't do anything.

I want to find out where "Drayton-in-Hales" is. A Canadian penfriend, from many years ago, has contacted me. She's being doing redearch into her family history. Her Great Grandfather lived in the Station House, and it was then listed as being in "Drayton-in-Hales", but in a later census, he was listed as being Railway Station Master in the "civil parish of Market Drayton."
The thing is- this was the house I grew up in- the station house- but I don't know if "Drayton-in-Hales" was just a name for that area of Market Drayton. I need access to an old map, I suppose!
