From BBC Website
"Exeter City are again appealing to their fans to donate money to help keep the club afloat. Last month the Conference outfit, which is run by its supporters, had a £20,000 shortfall. The Exeter City Supporters Trust is hoping at least 500 fans will make a £100 donation. The club have just three home games left this season to bring in much-needed money, and still have to make tax payments"

Why would that be a good thing?
Good luck Exeter in your fight for survival

Its one of many badly run clubs and you could argue that if we had managed our finances we could well have been in DIv 2 or 3 but broke facing the abiss. I am right in saying they are fighting the 12 point deduction through the courts adding to their costs? More money for lawyers - not good

And if they win then the costs go against the rest of the conference clubs I guess??

I think their lawyers are working on a 'No Win - No Fee' basis We would be rolling it in by now if our players were on that kind of contract last year

Story on the back page of yesterday's NLP suggests that if they win it will drag other clubs down with them- ie we'll all end up paying the Conference's costs.

I would not like to see any well established club to go to the wall but I guess there is a limit as to how much you can support poorly financially managed clubs. I noticed Graham Turner taking a hard line against Exeter in the NLP this week- its bad enough one team going to the wall but if their court case drags a few others down with them then my sympathy will reduce

It could be the 12 points issue will go away if they fail to make the play-offs anyway. Wonder if its worth fighting it. having said that what is the point of having rules if we back off as soon as we are threatened with court action..

I have to say I have massive sympathy for the many thousands of real fans there. It is not their fault that the people at the top, over whom they have had no control, have run the club badly and broken rules along the way.
Yes, I appreciate broken rules means punishment, just as in any other walk of life. However, if this was happening at our beloved STFC, we ourselves would be doing everything to keep our club going and revoke any possible punishments (much in the same way we are currently fighting for a new ground).
Some of you on here will know Roger Kendall at Exeter, especially members of ASFC. It was Roger I first contacted to arrange a supporters footy game a few years back. His family and my family are now firm friends.
Roger is one of those thoroughly decent blokes you only meet rarely in life. He has always been heavily involved in the social side of ECFC arranging away trips and helping out in the social club and with fund raising.
When we went there this season it was Roger who ended up manning the away turnstile, for no financial gain, just for the love of his club. The amount of time he puts into that club is probably equivalent to our very own Ade Plimmer (REVAP2004).
Through this he has been heavily involved from day 1 in the Supporters Trust and has recently been voted onto the ECFC board, not because he is a wealthy business man, but a supporter who cares very much.
Over the last few years I have made good friends with a lot of ECFC fans, and am nearly as well recognised in their social club as I am in the Telepost!!
It should not be these fans and the thing nearest and dearest to them that is punished, but the idiots who have down the years done this to their beloved football club. Lynch them and let ECFC live.

Strewth! Reading it back this morning that is nearly a Llanellian post!! Sorry folks, but afraid it had to be on the longer side to put the depth of feeling into it (and no, I hadn't been drinking as I was working till the early hours last night!!).

I know what you are saying Paul and yes I do agree the rules have been broken so the argument is there that a punishment should be handed out. The particular punishment here being 12 points.
However, I think I'm correct in saying that all those who were involved in this are no longer at the club. It isn't going to hurt them. Just the innocents left behind.
With a 12 point deduction Exeter have no chance of making the play offs. If that is the case I fear they may well end up going to the wall and I'm sure no genuine fan wants to see that.
Even without a 12 point deduction there is a strong possibility they won't make the play offs, but at least they still have a chance, and if they did make it back to the league their chances of survival would be improved.
