I was having a drink with a Town fan last night and he made some interesting observations. According to a source very close to the club, the reason that Luke was on the bench on sat. was nothing to do with team selection but everything to do with the fact that there is a serious personality clash between him and the manager and that JQ's response to the situation is to treat him like a naughty boy and stick him on the bench. Apparently the way the Crewe situation was handled still rankles. The inevitable result is that all season we have seen but a pale imitation of the Rodgers we knew. Add to this Cramb's bleating to the Star, the seemingly bad feeling between Tinno and Howie, and the treatment of Lowe and I am really beginning to worry about whether the team are going to be sufficiently focused to get us through the play offs.

I don't agree with you re: Luke Rodgers, I honestly think JQ rewarded the team that finished vs Leigh by starting them on Saturday; this is a similar theme to recent weeks e.g. By leaving Aiston out vs Telford.
However there are evident concerns with the current team should we go into the playoffs.
I believe we still need to sign a new defender and another out and out winger, unless JQ gives Glenn Tolley or Ian Fitzpatrick a chance.

Fitz has already been loaned out, and was not in the 16 for saturday, even though Aiston is out. G Tolley for some reason is miles behind the hit & miss Lowe (though 11 goals is a v.good return), and the ineffective Street. There have been baffling selections all season long, i dont see these two fringe players coming into the fold this late on.

I thought Luke should have started on Sat but at least Quinn does not seem to be afraid to leave the big names out unlike Mr. Ratcliffe. You will never get agreement on here about team selection- basically Quinn sees them every day so leave it to him.

Yea but Paul, if it is personal as to why Luke is on the bench and not a matter of ability then surely thats not good for the team. Ant why reward the team that played against Leigh You think that performance warrants certain players keeping their place It certainly wasn't after Saturday

I think after JQ has gone his team selection will be deifined by one comment "Jimmy Quinn - the man that 4 months longer than the fans to see that Gregor Reico was not the right player for Left Back" Luke must start - any place up fron or wide right - we need the pase!

I'd imagine the Forest Green team, coach and supporters were all pleased to see Luke Rodgers name on the bench.
By all accounts, Luke played like he had a rocket up his arse (no pun intended).
Had we had him on from the start, could we have sewn the thing up after an hour?
I'd say we'd have had a damn good chance.

I never buy that argument Ant. I like the 'Never change a side that's playing well especially if you don't have anyone better to bring back' one though.

I didn't say I buy it too, but some managers are favourites of it, and JQ is evidently one.
Although the twice he's used that link of thinking - vs Telford (Trophy) and FGR it's not really worked.

Yep, and to be honest Ant, I totally agreed with our line-up against Telford (although many didn't) but felt that players rather than tactics let us down for the majority of that day.

Looking through some tapes last night and came across some old Goals Extra that hadn't had any porn taped over (before u start!). Fitz scored a cracker of a goal for Halifax at Torquay, set up Keggs for the other!

Depends what you mean by personal- if Quinn does not like him then you are right but if he has been late, missed training, broken club rules etc then it would harm team spirit more to tolerate the latter

Quinn does seem to like sticking with a winning team but I simply don’t understand why. You have to pick your best eleven, simple as. Why stick with the team that played Leigh RMI and leave out Rodgers? I’m absolutely astonished by this decision, the performance versus Leigh was, for me, very poor…I’d even go as far as saying it was s**te…
Rodgers must start tomorrow…play him along side Cramb and sick with that partnership…

Because you want to play 4-4-2, and because Cramb and Rodgers are more likely to produce goals than Darby/whoever?

To simplify things IMO Quinn/The Management Team/Coaching staff whatever have absolutely no idea of what team to pick and or what tactics to play........ We are where we are in the league for two reasons.. 1) we've got a good defence and 2) the standard in this league is cr@p and if we'd have played like we have been this season in the 3rd we'd have been on the back of alot more hidings like D&R...... over to you Shakey

From Saturdays game the Forest Green defence were truly worried every time Rodgers or Darby were on the ball.
I would like to see Cramb to sit behind Rodgers and Darby.. could be pretty creative.. didnt we try that against Burton and we created lots of chances ( but only scored 1 )

I Don't buy into the " Don't Change a winning Team" on the basis of a poor performance against Leigh Lukey had to start. Lets get it straight Lukey must start against Telford and so must DD on merit, DD was class against FGR my man of the match and like other poster's I firmly believe that had Lukey come on earlier we would have won easily. furthermore whilst cramb has got the goals this season and whilst he can be creative he of all the forwards needs a shake up so for me he would only be fourth choice behind Banim.
