after a debate on here earlier in the week i did some counting
For a target man his arial prowess is dire
either play the ball to his feet or not at all
it was half way through the second half when he won his first flick on, and it went straight to a Barnet player, and I believe that was his only one of the night
I stopped counting the high balls to Darby that he failed to win in the first half when I passed ten
The man has got a decent touch and a decent pair of feet so why do we pump aimless long balls to his head which are only ever picked up by the defence?
Play to his strengths Jimmy, get someone to pass him the ball

Whilst I agree Dave (good to see the monkey tonight too...) Darby got plenty into his feet but lost it most times (to the Barnet fans delight). In the words of after dinner football speakers the world over.... 'He could control a ball further than i could kick it'

this was a quote from a Barnet of mine....
"...and as for that Darby chap, I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't in prison by the end of the year. Thoroughly ugly."
I have to admit he did put himself about a bit last night...

It is a shame, because whilst he didnt look to good last night, he still had the odd opportunity that really he should have converted. At least he is more effective with his knock ons than he is with his one on one finsishes Having said that I'd still stick with him for monday.

How tall is Darby? He's never given me the impression that he is a target man.

There's a difference between being a target man (Darby is not) and winning your decent share of headers (Darby doesn't).

Cramb and Luke Monday a must. Suprised it you so long to see through DD. Told you before he uses the same sheet of paper to try and out jump in training that Jemson used.

Jimmy Quinn is a target man.won more headers in the last 6 minutes than Darby won all night .His hold up play is better too.Pity he is 44.

Cramb is suspended is he not? I thought the crucial difference last night was the performance of the two keepers.

Jokers the lot of you - Where the Why was lowe so crap thread - where did Tolley and Occoner go during the game - why did Luke not score from open play with his chances ect ect - no back on the Darby bandwagon - im not serprised really - in the League game Darby was the star man down there place - so clearly there pre match had focsed on this.
Any one calling for Cramb is way of target!!!
He will produce at home - it has to happen!!

Good lord. The man has one mediocre (Not as bad as as some!) game and your all calling for his head?!?! This coming from the same people who I presume sing Lowe's name week in week out! Agree with Glyn there were many more worse performers last night. He's already pointed out the three main offenders so I won't do it again. Pathetic..........get a grip!!

I am not calling for himt o be dropped, I am merely asking why we keep hoofing long balls to him when he fails to win any of them?
And I am quite hacked off by the ridiculous levels of pro-Darby stuff on here, he has done a decent job for us and nothing more, he's missed some howlers and scored some important goals
Other players did poorly last night, yes, but then i haven't read a month of posts about how brilliant Duane Darby is on what I consider to be fairly flimsy evidence
I want Darby to score 3 goals on monday and the winner int he play offs, he is a good honest player, but he needs decent services and crosses he can attack, high and hard leaving him against a defender is only ever going to have one outcome and it is not shrewsbury in possession

Fact of the matter is that for some reason people have decided to attack the most in form player at the club at the most crucial point of the season..............so much for getting behind the lads.
Darby has proved his ability by scoring, and I quote, "Important goals".
And yes there has been a lot of pro Darby stuff on here recently (personally I blame my brother) but in the words of Krusty the Clown "12 million Frenchmen can't be wrong!!"

I am not attacking Darby, I am questioning the tactic of not playing to his strengths, he scored a shed load at Rushden by having decent crosses to attack

And I am quite hacked off by the ridiculous levels of pro-Darby stuff on here, 4 Well if thats not a persoanl attack on me i dont know what is Shame on me for supporting one of the less liked player (well he was) who most an instand dislike too and then trying to get his moral up be stopping all the negative stuff by turing the tide on here and making a stand with 40+ others who are regular poster on here. Notice how i did not state DD had a good game on here yet - fact is he was average and would have score is not for a (shropshire star Quote) Save of the season contender!!! But some player in that team have been average for weeks Lowe, Tolley and Occoner and they get off scott free after there performace last night Well lets all hope DD is crap then you all be justified - i might have slagged of cramb but he was poor and the evidence has been in his reaction, darby might have critics but he will never never give up on the pitch!!!

It was not meant as a personal attack on you Pricey, there are many people who have said very pro Darby things and your comments are normally rational at least!
DDAS is very popular and you have forged ahead in your appreciation of the big man and generated a good following which is good and people singing his name, as I do, will give him confidence
but some of the claims made have been outside of rational thinking
I really want Duane Darby to do well and in order for that to happen Quinn needs to understand he is not a "Target Man" but is actually quite a skillful player and needs some good service
I have every faith that Darby can and will deliver the goods for Salop and I like the way he does work really hard, and i am just frustrated by the way we are not playing to his strengths and highlighting his weaknesses

I aactually agree - standing next to some random stranger last night
his mate slags DD off saying hes not wining out in the air - some other bloke behind him souts well whats he supposed to do when every ball is to high for him.
He can head the ball - take fanborough as an example - but thats where we want darby for the headers taking a cross and puting it in the back of the net! But another of the problems is will still have no body who can cross balls for a whole game to a good standard - so he never gets them chances. Then to most its clear that if Quinn brought Darby a Proper target man to replace the job in the team he was doing - Darby only half fills that role, he that and much much more - all of which would be more effective for the team. Ne will come good whe we play to his strengths but that said his heading up to last night had been ok!!!

So this is more of a "Quinn is useless" issue than a "Darby is useless" issue.
You should have just said so.
Then again maybe its just the fact that both of the starting wingers at the club (Lowe and Aiston) couldn't cross a ball to save their life and with the "craft" (I use the term loosley) left in the rest of the team the big punt up the field is all we can do. (Lets be honest boys and girls, its all we've been doing all season, why expect it to change now!)
Also Chester have long balled thir way to the championship.........so its not a totally redundant tactic if used properly.

Fact of the matter, is that Duane Darby is made out to be God.
Look at the facts-
Darby has started 26 games and scored what 11/12 goals? Hardley God like stats.
If Cramb had missed that header that Darby had had yesterday Pricey, you wouldnt be saying it was a marvolous save, you'd be moaning "whats the use of picking a striker who can't score from 6 yards...."

On the crossing issue, which you always blame for the lack of DD goals Pricey.
Well first half certanly there were enough decent quality crosses comeing from the feet of Ryan Lowe and Jamie Tolley (corners)
Hell even sam put Darby through, altho he waited untill the defender was able to block his shot before shooting.

No offence Rob but shut the hell up Crambs a gonner here but hell defender him all you like im sure hes the solution as usual for you And if you wanna base Darbys lates form on the efforts of last night fine - i will remember all the recent games were he was good. Also he might not have won many flick ons but he ran and chased balls down last night that Cramb would not have even considered chaseing A Darby vs God debates only got one winner for me - Darby hes the only one that actually existed!!! And dont even try to comapare Darby and Cramb one trys the other does not - if thats what you want fine ps rob are you playing for B and A on Sunday - if so you will have the chance to feed a proper target man (me) from the wing

O'Connor out of form???!!!!
I'm stating the facts Pricey. Darby has struggled since the Farnborough away game. His first touch last night was abysmal.
I'd still play him on Monday though.

I'm not a Cramb fan. On form I'd have to say Sam Aiston and Ryan Lowe have been the form players over the last week or two. Personnally I dont care who plays upfront, as long as their playing alongside Rodgers, with Aiston outwide. I just find it interesting, 7/8 one on ones Darby has missed, and yes he missed a sitter last night when the chips were down. I dont slag him off, I can see where you're coming from (I often have Sam Aiston [Darby in your case] tinted specs on too). However I just think you are being a little unrealistic. As for O'Connor, fair play to him and Tolley they were the taiters last night. For Darby to be Godlike, he'd have to be perfect and whilst he still struggles to impose himself in the air, struggles to finish off one on ones and misses bread and butter opportunities he is far from Godlike. Dean peered tried? Did you worship him too??? as for feeding feeding you from the wing-well Ant will have to let me play for longer than 10 minutes this time

Gpricey get a life will you!! If DD is your God on a football pitch then pity you. I have read all your posts regarding Darby and have to admit there is only one conclusion. What the F**k do you watch week in week out? ? Fair does to you you watch more of the town away than I do but take your DD blue and amber glasses off for a minute. Exactly what does he contribute to the team?? Where is the link up play ?? Where is the hold up play?? Where are the flick ons?? Watch his movement when Luke or whoever has the misfortune to play with him has the ball at there feet. How many corners does he get his head too. Watch his movement when a free kick is taken. When has he ever put Luke (or anyone) through on goal?? The man is going through the motions. Now Colin Cramb.Leading Goal scorer ,still, despite being s**te upon since DD arrival. Problem with CC is his intelligence.Doesnt chase every no hope ball or throw in but is our leading goal scorer and well capable of vision and able to link with whoever he is playing with.Even DD) This skill makes him look lazy to the average football fan. Start him on Monday with Lukey then look out Barnet.Give the headless chicken a rest.

Colin Cramb the saviour of STFC? I dont think so. He looks lazy to 'the average fan' because he flamin is! he's also petulant and a . I watched him a while back standing in the centre circle arranging his hair while play went on. when he gave us in the riverside the finger that was the last straw.
