I really do rate Darby, i think he has doen well, but for some reason he is loved far more than his performances warrant and he really does not win a lot in the air at all Darby makes an effort and shows passion by getting stuck in, doesnt shurk tackles and when he goes for a header, he really goes for it, both cramb and jemson had this awful habit ( tactic ) of looking like a puppet whose strings had just been cut everytime they went for a header. Jemson and cramb are the kind of footballers you see on telly, ballet dancers, and most people like to see a bit of blood and guts in the game and dont like the non contact style of football that the modern day sport has become. When your in a fight you need a fighter in the team.

Anyone who says Jemson didn't get stuck in are having an absolute laugh.
Whilst he did have Heskey traits, he also used to take a lot of punishment from defenders and won us so many free kicks.
Trying to compare Darby to him at present is ridiculous.

Trying to compare Darby to him at present is ridiculous. I think your being Harsh – it was not his “Heskey traits” that bothered me – it was his “Jemson Traits” that got too me. I don’t think I have compared him to Darby yet but looking back if DD can fire us back up – for the long term future of the club he will be remembered for a lot more than 3 good games Jemo had in the Fa cup or when we were all ready a few goals down and he got all angry and showed that with the aggression he was lacking in most games he was a better player (Oxford away, Bury away ect) What I don’t get is – here we have a first team player working his ass off in every game, even producing the goods now in way of goals and is deserving of everyone’s support yet we hardly any one can bring them selves to say I hope the guy can do more for this club than Jemo ever did who spent 2 years playing well below him self and not putting the required effort in. As I said both Cramb and Jemo were and still are Luxuries that no team lower than the second division can afford to have IMO. I still maintain that Jemo might be remembered in the future for them goals by the out side world and the media (and some fans) but we will all know in 5 years time that the best two strikers we will have seen in the early 2000’s will have been firstly Luke (who is and will become a town ledged) and Darby!!!!

Olny cos he was so slow and every one could catch and tackle him - and then his reputation as a "big" player won him most of the free kicks!!

No, but he wasn't the top fouler in the division. Good old Jemmo, no one ever sits on the fence about him But I guarantee you that in 30 years time people will remember him as a legend at this football club.

Ant, i think your cheapening the word legend. Jemson was a very good player for the Town, but legend, he wasn't there long enough to earn the title.
Now Sir Arthur or Alfie Wood.... they were legends.

Look at you nit-picking on the word 'legend' JAMO2. Shame on you. Shame on me, me arse. Its to easy to bestow glorious titles on players that don't quite deserve them. Legend status is serious stuff, it should be reserved for those that make a sustained impact on the club and its supporters. The very fact that that there is so much disparity in town fans opinions on Jemson prove the case that he is not worthy of such a title. Never will you see people on here questioning Sir Arthur or Alfie, thats the aura that legends have. Now leave me alone ,i've got work to do before leaving for the smoke.

It's like the other guy said, the further he is away, in time as well as in football, the better he seems to some people on here. For me, he's no legend.

You have no idea what criteria I use to bestow the word legend on people Jamo2.
e.g. a man falling on his arse on the Morecambe pitch whilst running on the pitch last Saturday to tend goal whilst someone throws bottles at him.
I'd call that guy a legend, whereas others would just call him a drunken fool.....
;D

Personally i think had last sesaon not been overall so cr@p and the win against everton the only single poitive thing to be done on the pitch then even Jemos golas againt everton would not have stood out quite as much as they did. It was like the only good thing in a dredfull season for Jemo and the team and it will be remembered by the fans who go regulary (not the media and people outside the club) for the single good thing that happend to us in the whole season rather than a indication of what we were like the rest of the season. Never never could we allow Jemo back here!

I think that the difference now is that players don't stay at clubs for very long incomparision to the 'legends' of Sir Arthur and Alfie.
In my eyes, Jemson is a legend and will carry on being a legend mainly for his two goals against Everton, it was a very special day and he will always be remembered like that Radford fellow from down the road.
I could not stand Jemmo to start off with, but now I would welcome him back with open arms, Cramb and Darby are now where near Jemosn in terms of footballing ability.

Yeah but - as a fan would i have swapped the goals for a decent season in division 3 - hell yes - i hate that cup run was totally over shadowed by the bad feeling that i felt all summer after relegation and that my was as much Jemos fault as anyone elses!!!

Tottaly agree Ant but the main difference is that THEY STAYED TO HELP US BACK UP - Jemo for all his skills and for all the fans who loved him abandoned us because of his attitude and big head

Possibly.
Out of interest the only one of those players out of contract was Sam though, would the others have stayed had they not been out of contract?
To be honest this thread's gone well of on a tangent and I think it just confirms what most already know, that Jemmo divided the fans down the middle.

As I said when I first joined the B&A Board, has there ever been such a player as to divide not only away fans but his own as well. I doubt it. I think he would have wound the team and the supporters up at Telford though don't you? It was an ideal game for him. I do think he was hasty in his words at the end of last season - I suspect he is regretting them now!!!!!!!!!!! I have heard a rumour that he will be at the Playoff match on Monday - don't know if its true though. Jemson and Cramb in the same dressing room come on now, there wouldn't be room for anyone else - their egos would take up all the space....................... also we'd need Brian Clough as manager - who else would cope? ?

In not sitting on the fence... going in with two feet...
Jemson has been around and gets as wound up as me about the fickle town fans moaning about crap passes and stuff and not cheering the team on.
Jemson is a pro and puts in 110% on the pitch and gets narked off when people think he is lazy. Jemson has been there seen it done it and got the T-shirt. He gets angry with others as they are not on the same wave length as he is.
Luke is missing him like no tomorrow.
Jemson is alreay a star player in the Irish league.
To use a Shakey-ism, he is a hero but not a legend.

To use a Shakey-ism, he is a hero but not a legend. He's a star player because he is in a team outside the top flight where virtually everyone else is 23 or under. I'd question the 110% as well. Sometimes he gave it his all, of course, and he could be great, but am I the only one who remembers the petulance, the standing around hands on hips when things didn't go right in other games? Did anyone else hear him on five live the day after the Everton game saying he'd back himself in Division One if someone would take a chance on him? Didn't realise at the time, but he must have meant the meant the Irish Division One. All in all, though, he made life interesting for both sides, and for that, at least, I salute him.
