If I was living in the area I'd go. Simple as.
Just like if there was a club in the North-west in trouble, I'd go along if I could.
Its just a simple thing someone can do to if they care about other football clubs. No need to get into the whole Shrewsbury/Telford thing, and all this 'would they do it for us' s**te.
Just go if you want to, wear your Shrewsbury shirt if you want to, and at the end of the day for your £9 or whatever it is, you get to see a game of football you'll probably enjoy.
If you don't want to go, then don't. And if you want to justify that decision on the basis of not wanting to see Telford survive, then do it and feel free to state it on here. Won't stop me from thinking that you're talking utter s**te though.
I'm off to Rochdale V Doncaster tonight. Not in my Shrewsbury shirt. Not out of a need to do anyone any good. But because I love watching football of all levels.

TBH...that wasn't addressed to you just a general observation our kid...
I also can't understand people saying that if the Telford public don't turn out why should I...don't understand that at all. Everyone understands that with Telford's history the majority of football supporters within the town support (on the whole) other midlands clubs (i.e. Albion, Wolves, Villa, Blues etc.)...and because that attendances are never going to be anywhere near some of the numbers suggested. But that should not stop people supporting those supporters from Telford who do support their local club...for a true perspective I think you need to see Telford as Wellington...then you get a much better picture as to those within the town who have their roots with the club...
And on that last point JP...who can tell? How do you know whether the vast majority of Town supporters are thinking just that now about Telford? Yes there are a number of people on B&A and I'm sure you know other Town fans who are willing to help but how do we know what others are thinking? How many Town fans will make the trip to a Telford game to help...will it be a large percentage of Towns supporters? I'm sure some Telford fans would love to see Town go under and I'm sure there are some who would do what they could to help if we were ever in trouble...I would suspect it would be exactly the same as what we are seeing now...
Good post welshshrew...

Yes, my comment wasn't aimed at anyone in particular either. It's just that Buckschat seems to be full of Shrews at the moment larging it.
I don't want Telford to go under, if I can get to a game I will. Just as I didn't want Brighton to go under, and posted information on here accordingly. I don't really care if they're grateful or not, however.

Some good points on the thread.
Stutty has hit the nail on the head somewhat with his discussion of whether STFC fans et all want TUFC to go under or not - there are many who undoubtadly do and are taking great pleasure in the club's demise.
I also think Staly's comment "I don't really care if they're grateful or not, however" is a good one. The suggestion of how some, or all TUFC fans would respond to STFC going through similar problems is purely conjecture. I dread to think what it would be like for a supporter's football club to go bust; it's certainly a feeling I wouldn't like.

Going down to the Conference wasn't a great feeling either - we may be financially sound but the price we've had to pay on the pitch has been heavy.
In all honesty Telford have never really been what I would call a proper football club.
They've never had a decent following and even though they are about to go under they still only get 3,000 for the Canvey game.
They've got what they deserve - if people in Telford wanted a club they'd go and watch it but they don't.

And if we'd gone bust in 2000, we'd have got what we deserved with crowds of around 2,000?
What the hell is a proper football club?

I hate Telford and feel it is deeply hypocritical to start supporting them just because they are in trouble. I would hate it if Town were in trouble but would not want any help from Telford fans. I find it a bit rich that we all turn up and sing abusive songs about them f***ing their sisters and mothers then pretend to be nice to them just because their owner has gone bankrupt. I do feel sorry for them but I support Shrewsbury Town, not Telford. I think supporting them in this way is actually an insult, like England fans who support Scotland just because they are not doing well. It's like us treating Telford United like some impoverished fiefdom in need of a few potatoes. It's like showing them sympathy simply because we think we are better and secretly like to see them suffer.

I suppose I look at the "real" Telford fans, and what do I see? Rollo Sheridan making a 400 mile round trip to Exeter, in the hope of witnessing our demise. The away faithful producing a banner, sarcastically welcoming Shrewsbury to the Conference. No, I don't wish them to disappear completely, but I won't be contributing financially, except for buying a ticket for our visit next week. As far as rivalry goes, I'm not bothered if we never play them again.

No!!!!!!!
I can understand people stating the standard line of feeling sorry for the fans, but if people are being honest the real reason for people not wanting to see a football club go bust is because they know far more would quickly follow.
I will not support them due to having a long memory concerning their reaction to our relegation last season and then even on Saturday when Radio Shropshire were interviewing people heading for the game they were still slagging our club off. So was it really our clubs fault or our supporter's for the fact they all bought into a fantasy?
