Who do you think?
Obviously there are a few ex-loan signings now playing a lot higher up the leagues but who, if anyone, do you think Town made a huge mistake in letting go?
Alternatively, which players have come here with a great pedigree and turned out to be shíte?

Andrew Reece - Best striker of a dead ball i have ever seen other than Beckham ;D. Fred Davies was responcible for releasing him i think.

I agree.
Out of all the players released over the last 10 years that could have changed history, those two could have.
That said, maybe they don't fit in with the title as it was a financial thing.
Hmmm, anyone else recently? Would we have gone down with Dean Peer last year?

good question ant.
over the past 30 years I'm struggling to think of anyone who has left us for free and go onto a successful career elsewhere.
I was distraught as a 10 year old when we released Alex macgregor - he continued for quite a while with aldershot hardly a stunning carerr move.
The only player we got rid of in the last decade who wnet on to have a career in the pro game was Sean parrish but I don't think he would have made much of a difference.
Players that came with high hopes and then left later having doen not much - John Dungworth, Alan Irvine, Jim Melrose's scoring record was hardly great.

Can we have a manager instead? We should not have got shot of Fred. I was gutted when he got the sack and to this day believe it was a big, big mistake by the club...
Can't think of too many players who have been released by Town only to make an big impression elsewhere...but me memories not too good these days...
I did think Alan Irvine were going to be decent enough for us but he were a big let down...a big let down...

trouble is Fred had lost the plot and the wembley fiasco really did for him. Maybe a little unlucky but it's a tough game.
Maurice Evans is an interesting one - terrible season with us but fashined a succesful career with various teams afterwards.

Darren Currie for me, spent a fortune (£70,000) on him.
Dont know anything about drugs, and I accept he was a cockney wide boy, but boy could that man play.
As for succesful, he was constantly in the division 3 team of the year at Barnet, playing on either wing or just off the front man, and when they went doen they got £100,000 + I think for him.
No doubt he has failed to reach his potential, but that doesnt detract from him being an awsome division 3 player and a very good lower league player.
Dean peer came with a reputation, he'd played a lot for Northampton in div2 and maybe with brum?

I was going to vote for Currie as well, who is still playing second division football with Wycombe

I thought Currie was crap, mind you i had been used to the likes of Vic Kasule, John McGinley, Gary Hackett, Bernhard McNally etc...So Currie wouldnt even get a look in compared to them lot, trouble is, if we think Darren Currie was a good player it just shows how far our expectations have dropped.

what makes you say that?
Those sorts of players were at the club when it was a relatively big club, not a crappy div3 club.
he made it into the season team of the year for a number of seasons running. He cant be too bad...

I believe he went on to be very consistent Rob.
Don't doubt the talent argument or that he has gone on to better himself, but in my view Austin Berkely played more good games for STFC.

Id say currie was as creative as sam but had an end product...
Cant exactly say sam is the most consistent but still be gutted if he left...
Also agree with frankie bennett didnt we almost resign him after loan spell but got stolen by bristol rovers only for his knee to go (or am i getting confused!!!)

We only paid £30k for Currie.
A genius on his day he didn't do it consistently enough for the Town, neither for Plymouth when he went on trial there.
He's doing the business now but do you not think he could be playing at even a higher level now?

I don't think anybody in the last 10 years comes close to being the best player Town EVER got rid of - and I'm including transfers out for the players benefit/career Up above the name Nigel Pearson was mentioned, I'd add Paul McGuire, and even Ian Atkins .

Didn't O' niel ' tufty' Donaldson go to Sheffield Wednesday - i think injuries hit him and he ended up back in the third.
How good a player was he?

out of those that went that are still playing
paul evans would have kept us up last year
the amount of set pieces we made such a mess of was unbelievable,
macnally was one of the best i have seen
at the moment j tolley is our biggest asset, more so than luke in my opinion

Fair call on evo.
Always thought he played really well in the midfield. Used to take alot of undeserved (IMO) stick from the crowd from what i remember.

Didn't Evo only go cheap because he would have been a Bosman free at the end of the season?

Bob Wardle or Oggy.
The rock on which all successful teams are built around, and our last two class keepers.
From the more recent era I would agree with those who suggested Evo.
