The descriptions I have heard of Banim's stature and style of play would suggest he is a direct replacement for Luke. If it were true and Luke was sold for a sensible fee (£300,000 +) then surely that is good business sense. Luke gets the chance to improve himself, we get a talented non-league star hungry to prove what he can do and clear profit of more than a quarter of a million pounds as well as a lower wage bill.
If it is true and we really have upped our offer, you have to wonder if a deal for Luke is already being brokered.

Shrewsbury have turned down a 1 million deal from Crewe Alexandra.
I also heard that he's meant to be going to WBA (but theres no transfer window in the 1st division so why January?)

The £1million offer stuff is just myth
Gradi said at the time the offer would have effectively broken the conference record, which is around £300,000 but the Town wanted nearer to the money they got for Rob Hulse which was £750,000

I would like to see (along with everyone else I would expect ;D) for Luke to be in the starting line up against Telford.
the next couple of months will be interesting reading to see what happens with Luke.
If Jimmy did sign this Banim lad I would expect it to be the end for Luke at STFC as there would be no point having 5 strikers at the club, after all we're not Chester!

No way would we turn down £1 million!!! The Crewe bid was £200,000 wasn't it?
The Conference record is the £250,000 WBA paid Kidderminster Harriers for Lee Hughes.

Actually Chris, I think it's somewhere around £300,000 for Barry Hayles

I aint goona argue with you PPP! Hayles went from Hayes I think to Bristol Rovers. I didn't realise his fee was so high. I'll take your word for it

I remember reading those comments from Dario too PPP. The STFC line was that the bid was £200,000 wasn't it though I can't be bothered to trawl through old articles to find it.
Be interesting if we do get Banim though, he always seems to get a good write-up in the NLP.

Oh I see, i'm a bit behind the times there obviously Getting back to the original discussion, if Banim is half as good as the Radcliffe fans say he is it sounds like a good bit of business for the Town, a good long term signing and someone who has a decent chance of effectively replacing Rodgers

Quite agree PPP, he would be a good signing, its about time we picked up some gems from the lower leagues. If we ended up paying £25K tho, well that's £50K on forwards in a month or so. Certainly willing to splash the cash at the min, our Roland!!!
And you're not behind the times, I do do some sports reporting when the two regular lads are on holiday or whatever. That's probably where you've got a bit confused.

It makes you wonder if Quinn is being allowed to splash a bit of cash as long as he balances the books further down the line, e.g. Rodgers ?

If the thinking is that Banim is a replacement for Luke dont people think that managers of league clubs are going to want to see Luke hit top form for us this season before they splash out 2 or 300k for him ?

We are still in need of cover at centre half are we not?
I'd like to see Ryan given his chance up front when Luke moves on.
Old argument I know, but I dont think we can really judge him considering the majority of his appearances have been out of his favoured position.

I along with others Im sure suspect that Luke cant do it in The conference yet league football is more to his liking. For example when Rooney played against the likes of Arsenal last season he ran them ragid, but against us Wilding and Artell coped comfortably with him.
