This is simply fantastic news.
Not only will parts of east london be re-generated but the rest of the country will experience increased tourism.
The most important thing is what this olympics will leave to the country - it will inspire the children of Britain, the next generation of Olympians to play more sport and as a result to become healthier.
As for the comments about East London being minority white by 2012 - so what? All human beings are equal independent of their skin colour, nationality or religion. The olympics will increase multi-racial relations and improve Britain as a mulit-cultural nation - top work!

Surely we'll re-coup that though, Greg over the years? The facilities built aren't likely to go into disuse as we've seen in other countries, and I'm sure in future years they'll go for a Commenwealth games as well to use them, as well as various world championships.

Went to Sydney earlier in the year, and their Olympic stadium has become a tourist attraction in its own right. Perhaps one of the east end football teams could relocate to the stadium after the games have finsished. Olympic Millwall has a certain ring to it!

Anyone else not overwhelmed at the prospect of forking out for this? Much rather not, thanks. London is predicted to be minority white by 2012. The area where the stadium will be could be downtown Dacca or Karachi. What sort of image of Britain will the world see? Is there anything in it for us dumb English in the provinces? Yes, you dumb English educate yourself concerning the benefits of different cultures and peoples rather than being a rasict t**t
