Well all I can say is my opinion on him has fallen a hell of a lot... If 100k a week playing for "the club of his dreams" isn't good enough then what is? All this "priority" stuff is complete b******s....he wants to go to Madrid and that's the bottom line....

Chelsea had an offer turned down today didn't they? He'll be a Chelsea player by the start of the season I think. I wonder what might have gone on at Anfield to make him want to leave?

Astonishing!!
turning down £100k a week to play for the club you supported as a boy? Just staggering.
Call me old-fashioned but if I'd been any good as a football player I'd have played for Salop for buttons, and would have wanted to stay there all my career regardless of how many trophies we won.
I guess things have changed.

What?
At 25 he wants to move to a club where he may be able to seriously challenge for honours.
He's one of the most highly regarded England players yet is playing for a club who have been drifting for the last 3/4 years or so.
I'd immagine that his decision was not just made by the lack of priority shown by liverpool, but also by the lack of established continental names and maybe higher profile english players joining liverpool.

I'd have thought it's more likely that he has been heavily persuaded by his agent that staying at Liverpool was not a good thing.
But he is his own man and he is moving to get more cash - he already has heck of a lot more trophies than Stan Matthews ever had....

or it could be that liverpool have decided that £30 - £35million is too much to turn down for a midfielder whose had an awful lot of injurys and want that money to rebuild the squad?

This is top level international sport, and whatever the reasons are for the decision, it will not be about whichever club anyone supports.

Rob.... Liverpool have just won the European Cup and are clearly going places....Benitez had a 5 year plan and he's achieved the maximum prize in his first! I'm convinced Liverpool will win the Prem in the next 3 years. Gerrard is behaving like a spoilt brat End of

Well, at Christmas I bet a Man U fan that they would finish below Liverpool next season - but I expected Gerrard to stay.
To me this is another reason to be grateful for not being a Premiership fan. If Gerrard goes the money is likely to be spent on more Spaniards, Carragher will feel very lonely.

Man utd could well be his destination IMO.
Fergie is a fan, Glazer needs to pull a rabbit out of the hat to appease the fans.
Real need to sell to fund any move if reports are true. Chelski have already made it 'official', no doubt they'll be favourites in the tabloids.

I bet SG regretted his emotional "how could I leave?" outburst within a couple of days after coming out with it.
It could well be that Liverpool aren't exactly gutted to be pulling-in £30-35 for him with what that can do for the squad, but all this talk about SG being upset because the club was dragging it's feet - people were on holiday, his agent (spit) was on his honeymoon and the tw at's got two years left on his contract!
It's difficult to see how you couldn't be pleased with £100k per week, but Chelsea apparently offered him £125kpw at the start of negotiations last summer, so who know's how high they'll go?
Personally, I think he's a very good player, but not half as good as he seems to think he is at the mo (lots and lots of ambitious balls pinged into the stands etc), plus he's always been fairly injury-prone. If he leaves the club and city that he professes to love at this stage, then I think he's not doing it for any sort of challenge. Trying to bring a title back to Anfield in the next few years would be a challenge, trying to waltz to some titles at Chelsea doesn't really offer much of a test does it? It's almost on a par with Gascoigne joining Rangers because he fancied some silverware (yep, that's how pony the Prem has become)
Not that he'll care either way until he's older and a bit more mature, but if my two Scouse mates that I spoke with today are typical, he'll quickly find himself a very unpopular man in his hometown just a few weeks after he was viewed as a hero.
PS. Don't know why, but I just can't see him settling in London.

He has already become a very unpopular man in his home town. As many people have said already, you could have been a hero, the greatest of them all, instead you have become the most hated ex-player in LFC history.
There is only one person who will end up regrertting this, and his first name is Steve. What a load of rubbish about trophies, he has won every single possible trophy apart from Premiership already, and he's only 25. That's 7 winners medals, apparently not enough. A disgrace to the game.
Forever Judas!

Shambles, the words burnt and bridges come to mind. If he never wanted to leave then why hand in a transfer request? Can't believe Parry has apologied to him, for what?
Shouldn't be captain next year, nobody totally commited to the club acts like he has done two years in a row. He's played the club and the fans for fools.
Same time next year for the Steven Gerrard show.
