I have a feeling he's in lumber. He wants to sign for Crewe, but there is no sign of that at all. If he was to go he would be there this week unless others know different, he'll either be at somewhere like Rotherham (no disrespect) or back at GM asking for that 1 year.

Does GP have the wages budget to still pay luke what he first offered? does GP want him back? if luke turns round in a week's time, asks to sign the one year deal and we tell him it's not on offer anymore, would that mean he could then go free under Bosman??? all very puzzling.

Really- Luke has paid for his loyalty to us, and that's sad.
He should have gone when he was on form and there was plenty of interest in him.
Sadly he lost form with Quinn, and, although he'd recovered some of his confidence, he didn't really get back on form, the way he used to be.
I really hope he gets fixed up. What about the Tranmere rumours? That would suit him better than Hiberian!!!! (is the Hiberian offer still "on the table"?)

Would you be gutted to go into next season with Stallard, McMenamin, Luke and Langmead as our four strikers?
Would be surprised if Crewe came in for Luke now.
As well as Ugarte they have lined up Man Utd youngster Eddie Johnston on long-term loan.
However, I suppose Gradi may see Luke as an investment and not too much of a gamble at £50,000 tops.
Would like to see Luke get a good move but the more it drags on the less likely that move becomes!
Has Luke said he DEFINITELY won't sign for another League Two club?

Did GP say he could get a couple of new players in on the wage Luke was being paid? Luke was a decent earner and having signed quite a few new players in the past week or so I would be surprised (though quite happy) if we had the cash available to ofer him a new contract.

luke may have to go back to us cap in hand and even be prepared to sign a contract for less money that whats he's on now.

Shouldn't think that Luke is in GP's plans now, if he has money to spare for wages there are more pressing concerns than another striker.
I certainly hope Luke gets fixed up with a club at a higher level, if for no other reason than I don't want to see him running the legs off Walton/Whitehead!

I gather that if a club doesn't offer a player a contract on terms that are at least equal to those in his current contract, that player is free to leave on a free transfer.
Consequently, if a club wants to ensure that they can obtain a transfer fee for a player that qualifies for one they have to offer that player a contract. I believe I'm correct in saying that Luke has been offered a one year extension to his current contract on the same terms - the minimum requirement to for the club to a transfer fee.
Hence Luke has a contract offer from Town which he could - but probably won't - sign.

I wish Lukey good luck in finding himself another club, it is best for us & him if he tries his luck elsewhere.

No gossip I'm afraid JP - only reading between the lines. I really can't see Luke coming back next season. He's been offered a contract but, from what he has said, Luke seems adamant that he wants a change to prove himself at a higher level. If he signed for Town now it would really be an admission that no body else is prepared to take a chance on him. Also, despite offering him a contract GP has really damned Luke with faint praise. Can a player really go back to a club when the manager has said he'd rather spend the money on two or three other players? It's also funny to see Luke's agent actually talking him down because it thinks that will lead to a better deal. I always thought an agent was supposed to talk up a player's abilities. The transfer market is still fluid - I suspect the firm offers will start to come in once August arrives. When the pool of available strikers starts to dry up clubs will start to get interested in Luke even if it will have to pay modest fee for him.

The Crewe move is probably off now that Ugarte has signed but with other players being out of contract at Gresty Rd in a years time then that could be Lukes que to go. I feel sorry for Luke as Crewe offered a substantial amount of money for him to years ago when he was on form but now two years later the interest seems to have gone and Luke is well down Dario's required list. I'd love him to sign on for one more year but as has been said above an alternative move is sure to come up even if it is only division 1.

Dario turned Lukes head two season ago and has watched him time and time again up until the last game of this season so we were led to believe, perhaps he still wants him, but is just trying to excert himself a little so Luke will come in on a reasonable wage, Dario is no fool

'Dario is no fool' If you speak to a lot of Crewe fans there'll tell you different. After all that guys done for them aswell. I suppose even Cloughie hung around too long but before Gradi over Crewe they were the laughing stock of football. Also speaking to some Alex fans on the subject of Sorvell the less said the better
