I thought Miss Dynamite's message was very moving, even if I don;t really like her music that much
Will Smith really made an impression, as did Brad Pitt, they meant it. I thought Will Smith getting everyone across the world to click their fingers every three seconds will be a defining moment.
I felt embarrassed for Ricky Gervais, he really did get the tone and the message wrong, all wrong, it was painful, just embarrassing.
Jonathan Ross is totally wrong for presenting it in my view. he is only interested in self promotion, and in people who are his friends. A very poor choice I would say, and he has made some horrible gaffs already, which is a desperate shame.
Music wise I thought U2 were amazing, great seeing Green Day but really looking forward to this evening, very much so
1.5 million people on the streets of Philadelphia being shown on major networks across the USA. I just hope that will cause a real groundswell of opinion change in the USA with lasting consequences.

The messages of making poverty history and the footage from Africa have been poigant, moving and have helped put the message across well as Yes thats what it all for so next week 8 men sit up take notice.
But so far I thought Hyde Park has been pretty dull to be honest! Not the artists so much but the crowd, most of them are standing still talking to their mate or having picnic's with their kids rather than 'enjoying' the music, i didn't see that on the Live Aid footage from the 80's EVERYONE was totally into the music!!!
Its free so i kinda feel that alot of people who would normally 'pay' for theses sort of concerts are the ones sitting at home without a ticket and are watchin on TV.
Madonna, U2, Muse & Green Day are the only bands so far who have 'woken' the crowd up!!!!!

I'd agree with that, the crowd have been very flat today. It's hard to tell from watching the TV, but the sound coming from the stage also seems very flat. I suppose it doesn't help that the techies have 5 minutes to set their band's gear up but take the Killers for example. Lead guitar was too quiet, and somebody must have forgotten to plug the gospel singers microphones in because I didn't hear a peep from them.

It looks to me like part of the problem is the V.I.P. section at the front
the day to day fans don;t get a look in until quite far away from the stage
you need the nutcase mosh pit down at the front to give a good atmosphere for the TV, not Kofi Annan and Ricky Gervais doing an embarrassed two step on the front row
I personally think if Robbie Williams does 'Angels' then that will be one to get everyone going
Madonna was excellent, as were The Killers
But the moment were Bob Geldof came on with the girl from Ethipia who was on the video, well, they aren;t going to surpass that moment ina hurry, an amazing story, pure theatre, two fingers to the press and the cynicism that binds up our society

How come the Killers only got to do the one song, i've been waiting all day to see them. I see Joss Stone is still clogging up the stage...
And Jonathan Ross, you're not funny. Bog off

A great shame, that the music lovers are so far back.
But needs must and ythe people at the front were prepared and happy to be ripped off for the priviledge of standing very still at the front and getting a free finger buffet.
I'm not entirely convinced the americans are completely aware of live 8 afric, trade justice, poverty history the g8 etc... But it still looks impressive all the same.
Haven't seen much, due to being at work most of the day, but the highlight for me, which i doubt will be bettered was seeing coldplay and Richard Ashcroft perform bitter sweet symphony

Steve Sailer on "Make Poverty History" www.isteve.comScroll about a third of the way down. Most of the 'competetive altruists' signing the live8 petition would wet themselves at the thought of actually discussing what causes Africa's problems. I'm enjoying the free concert anyway.
Make Poverty History: A Constructive Suggestion. Tony Blair and Sir Bob Geldof are working together to make a very big deal out of getting more aid for Africa out of the G8 countries this week.
Sub-Saharan Africa's single biggest problem is its average IQ of around 70. Since African-Americans score around 85, and they share about 80% of their genes with their African cousins, it's likely that the poor environment in Africa depresses the average IQ substantially.
Probably the cheapest way to raise IQs in Africa is to attack diseases caused by a lack of micronutrients that are known to lower IQ, such as "loserism," which is caused by lack of iodine. Western countries started fortifying salt with iodine and flour with iron back before WWII, and that quickly eliminated what had been a substantial problem here.
UNICEF sponsored a big study of the problem last year. I wrote about what we could be doing to help the Third World in this regard here and here. But nobody else in the media seemed very interested because they aren't supposed to write about black IQ. See, good people think it's more moral to let loserism and the like ravage Africa than to mention IQ in polite society. Only evil people like me are so disreputable as to try to get the world to solve the problem.
