I went to watch this tonight and can highly recommend it. Brilliant special effects and though there were a couple of bits in it that were a bit cheesey, overall well worth a watch 8/10

Gonna see if I can watch it over the weekend.
Saw a program about it on MTV today and it looks like the film is completely different to the book

Typical American over the top extravaganza Phil. They still use Ogilvy in the film...... Must have moved from the UK

Am writing a 'War of the Worlds' scheme of work at the moment, think my year 8s are going to love it! The special effects on the trailer alone look good. Hopefully I can persuade my other half to sacrifice cricket/tennis/football for the cinema one night next week....

Just been to see it.
What is it with Spielberg and not being able to write endings?
I enjoyed the film up until the point where Tom Cruise saved the Earth using three grenades.
The film is nothing like the book so I won't make comparison.
As the film only had two thirds to it I'll give it 6.5 out of 10. Would have been a good film but for the ending.
P.S What was the point of giving Morgan Freeman a cameo role as the narrator?

I went to see it today. Although Ogilvy was a character, he wasn't central as per the book. In fact, Ogilvy was the only link to the original. except for a ship sinking. and the title.
It seemed that this film was just a showcase for what special effects are available currently, which however are stunning, just detracted a little from the storyline.

The ending inparticular completely ruined it for me but because of that i have become very critical of the rest of the film interesting to find out if certain scenes are in homage to other Spielberg films or just unoriginal.
This one really is pushing the 12A rating though we have had a number of kids (upto and over 12) coming out due to some of the 'scary' scenes

Haven't seen it yet. With this response, I might not bother....
Mind you the Thai King's anthem that they insist playing beforehand in the cinema is more than worth the entry fee.
TALLY HO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally someone who agrees with my thoughts ;D 3/5 for me - not the worst movie ever, but nowhere near the standards set already this year by Batman, Sith etc. Better than Hitchiker's though.

I have just been to see Batman which was excellent but unlike Phil i won't spoil it for everyone by telling them what happens I haven't told anyone what happens - you can see that in the trailor. I've told you before Dave - don't use that waggy fingers - it's rude

The film is nothing like the book so I won't make comparison. For anyone who wants to read the book, since it's old enough to no longer be copyrighted it's available online from a number of places, including: THE War of the Worlds - The Novel

I remember the musical version that came out in the 70s, very good and quite scarey at the time (i was about 10).
