I think I read a very good piece about Alti in 442 not so long ago...it seems they were very unlucky not to have been given their chance in the League...but the old boys network meant they never made it. A very colourful history nevertheless... Well done to them...

if i remember rightly they were founder members of the conference in 1970 They won it in its first two seasons (80 and 81) but were denied by the old system and missed out by a single vote on a league place.

Enjoyed our FA Trophy visit there, and Moss Lane is quite a sizeable ground so they should have no problem gaining promotion to the League so all the best to them!

Good oh. Altricham came within a whisker of being a league club during the old election days. It looked like they had enough votes in the bag to replace Rochdale. Rochdale were so certain they were going out of the league that they'd already sold most of their players before the vote. But someone was late to the meeting (I think it was the QPR rep) and Rochdale stayed in. If I recall (and I may be wrong) the higher division teams had more votes and QPR were in the top division then so their votes counted a lot.

You are right - ony Div's 1 & 2 were Full Members and and Div's 3 & 4 were Associate Members and only had something like 4 votes between them. All changed now of course, but I did not realise quite how close Alty had got

Gutted to have missed this due to a prior commitment. However my brother in law and various nephews and nieces had a great day and report that Alty dominated the game - until the last few minutes when Eastbourne pulled one back. Alty's recent history has been similar to ours - a good team throught the '70's and 80's but in decline for the last 10 years or so. They are now very short of money and have lost 50% of the support from 10 years ago, Alty is mainly a Man U town Hopefully the shenanigans at Old Trafford will encourage people back to real football.

Alty is mainly a Man U town Are you sure - I thought Alty was quite close to Man U, not somewhere hundreds of miles away down south
