The Scunny game highlighted the problems of parking, arriving at 1315hrs i had to travel out to the Monkmoor road to get a space.
I'm not complaining at all but i would be interested in the amount of new spaces at the NM, has the number been confirmed as yet ?
I feel more people will attend games by car due to the geographical location of the NM, therefore i would estimate we need around 3000 spaces to facilitate a packed NM (10,000).
On an average crowd of 5000 I would think 1499 would be suitable. Oxford is a good example of out of town stadia with too little parking.
Anyone know whats planned ?

There are rules restricting the amount of parking spaces that can be made available so to make people use public transport, the club have to provide buses from town or perhaps shirehall carpark as well, as for the number of spaces I doubt my memory serves me right but something like 680, but thats a very faint memory. look here, only the stadium has changed and some pitches moved www.shrewsburytown.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewMeadowDetail/0,,10443~173194,00.html

Bear in mind there wil still be only the one access way to the NM so traffic delays should be pretty hefty.
Tip for next season Windsor park up at Cineworld-5 minutes walk tops. Free parking and its fairly easy to get out of compared to parking at the Abbey etc

Theres was some talk when the plans were first announced of a link with the park & ride and even a railway siding! The later was obviously paper talk/wishful thinking but I should think the park and ride link would be a good idea-the buses pick up in town and out of town fans who park there can dump there families on the buses Everyone's a winner

Plan is for 600/650 car spaces.
I estimate car park full for attendances of 4,000, poss 3,500, based on the official figures.
Park and Ride - I drive from Copthorne to the Shirehall and get a bus to Meole,
or I park at the ground early and have nowhere to go for 2 hours.
I will have my 83 year old Dad with me who does not walk too far.
P.S For Meadow games come to the Boars Head in Belle Vue, park, have a pint and 5 mins to the ground

on the approach to oxfords ground though, there are cars parked on both sides of the road, on the grass verges at the side of the road and on the grass verges in the middle of the road.
Residential estates nearby....

Residential estates nearby.... I think Throwers might extend there carpark and charge supporters to use that, nice extra income, the road to sutton farm will be a total no go and well policed as will sutton road, thankfully, our Cllr is on the committee that has been set up to combat any parking or other problems that come up, we won't need anymore hassle from this council

Car parking at the New Meadow will be very restricted, i.e. only available to visiting supporters and certain home supporters, e.g. executive club members etc.
Your run of the mill, pay on the day fan is very unlikely to be able to park at the ground.
Park and ride will be provided from the Shirehall car park and other locations when larger crowds are expected. There will also be transport links provided from the Town centre and railway station.

Away supporters will have priority on parking. Therefore, for an average away crowd of 500, you're looking at a around 200 cars. Then there are disabled spaces, those designated for executives, supporters coaches, police areas etc. and not much left for home fans, particularly at big games (Saturday we would not have been able to park at the NM). It will be interesting to see how it pans out. I asked the question at the second to last STFC Umbrella Ticketing meeting about whether the club were obliged to provide free public transport (from Shrews town centre) to anyone with a ticket for the match, as the 106 agreement suggests. Keith didn't know, Judy stated that STFC would have to, although this didn't make the minutes. Transport will need to be high on the agenda of the person who oversees the NM project, particularly if we're going to get the 'possible 3,500 crowds' the planning application talks of. (to be fair, we were averaging 2,800 at that time!)

There are loads of free places to park around Longden Coleham, Coleham or Reabrook, all within 10 minutes walk of the ground. Abbey Foregate is often a problem area for matchday parking but look elsewhere and you'll have no problem.

Welcome to the Brave New World of New Meadow.
The parking and access farce will be the #1 reason why our gates fall by hundreds if not thousands if we move.
If the GM gets sold, what's the odds on NM not being ready and Town playing a season or two in Wellington?
Just watched Meadow Memories, back in the day when Salop were a serious club. Built a large modern grandstand and totally updated three sides of terracing back in the early 80s. Simon Inglis' described the ground as 'very neat' in the Football Grounds of England & Wales.
Shame nothing has been done in a quarter century since.

If you knew anything about the terms of the deal you'd know that is not possible! I'm a cynic. What matters is getting those 'luxury' shoe boxes built and kicking STFC out of the town centre. Things can be changed.

If you knew anything about the terms of the deal you'd know that is not possible! I don't think that is right. We will be fine if everything goes to plan, but the announcement on the Gay Meadow development seemed to imply that there was an end date when we would have to be out, but did not say when that was. It is something that should be clarified, but I don't suppose anyone will tell us

The delays are coming to an end, the frustrating thing is that we can't be told what is going on because Cllrs Armstrong, Owen etc are laying in wait trying to put more hurdles up, its all part of there deliberate cause to vertually ruin the club, they have succeded so far in trying to cause as much trouble between fans and board, hence all the questions stacking up at Whitters door that can't be answered, if they answer anything they have to be careful. The less time those Cllrs have to plot all the better. We have to face it in local Conservative terms we are not wanted and cant be seen to be supported by any Cons where ever possible.
