I know this is a bit premature but after Tinno going have we got the next skipper at the club already or is it going to be a new signing?

I think Neil Ashton would be a great captain, I'd definitely want it to be a lad who has been here this season, not someone new, and Ashton as a young lad with experience and a great player makes a great candidate

walton for me.
Bags of experience, knows the club and town inside out, and when fit a class act.

If Walton was guaranteed to be fit for the season he'd be my choice, but sadly that isn't the case. Ashton if we can sign him would be a strong choice, but let's see who we sign.
Edwards will be club skipper the season after next (assuming he is still with us).

Ashton if he signs. After Saturday it makes sense to me. He didn't have agreat game but kept pugging away and led by example in midfield. Nothing wrong with teenage captains. Ray Wilkins captained Chelsea at 18 when they were promoted in the late 70s. Maybe Ashton could do that leading Peters Pups on to the field.
But I think the extra responsibility would transform Jamie Tolley. If he's still here.

would imagine it wud be davey walton.....but at sean said, would be nice for tolley to get it, as it might push him on as a player, which is all good. as for niel ashton he could well get it, gp is an admirer of his, and has every chance. but i do think it will be davey walton

It will almost certainly be Walton
And if you make Ashton Vice Captain at least he then gets to play the role for 30 games a season...

I feel amazed that some people on here have propelled Neil Ashton into some kind of footballing God- its a shame because when he goes through a bad patch next season (which is inevitable with a young player) I guess the same people will quickly write him off- its absolutely ridiculous to think of him as the next captain of Shrewsbury Town. Assuming he stays with us, is he a good signing?- yes. Is he a great signing?- dont know yet. What is his best position?- not sure but I am not sure he will stay in the center of midfield. Does he talk and organise a lot on the pitch (surely a fundmental requirment of a captain)- No!

Left back is his best position, we need more quality in centre midfield which i'm sure Gary Peters will bring in.

Tinson was a great captain - but I'm not sure he gained anything by being given it - you felt he would always lead his side whatever. But give it to someone who needs a buck up - maybe a confidence booster - or a reason to become more vocal, and who knows - it may just have that affect. It'll be an interesting choice...

Fair point which matches Sean's idea about Tolley- but there is such a feeling against him with some fans, that it could destroy him if it went wrong

But then unless Tolley does something over the summer to improve his performances anyway he's going to be warming the bench next year anyway.

A few have said that it would need to be an existing player but Tinno came in and captained the side, so don't rule out a new player.
It seems to be a choice of Ashton, Tolley or Stitch, but we don't know that Ashton as even signed yet, this doesn't leave GP many options unless he looks to sign a captain amongst the players he's considering.

Its gotta be walton, ashton isn't experianced enough but will be one for the future. Unless the rumours of Evo returning are true, then it has to be him!
