I'm a little bit surprised than Tinson's not been retained, but apart from that there's no real shocks. But then again with Walton, Cowan and Whitehead at centre backs his chances might have been less than this year. I thought Challis had been doing quite well recently, but then again both he and Street were transfer listed several months ago, so unsurprising they've gone. Good luck to them all , but things had to change unless everyone wanted another season struggling.

Is O'Connor being released as a coach as well as a player, would assume so with Mike Wadsworth now doing most of the 1st team coaching.
Tinson has been great for us in the last two seasons, but I think its best to let him go now, he's just starting to look a little short of pace. Walton and Whitehead at the back sounds like quite a good partnership - assuming Walton stays fit!
Feel a bit sorry for Ross Stephens, he's just that little bit too small to have made it at league level, although he is a skillful player - hope everyone who's released gets sorted out with a new club in the summer

Fair enought I'd say - we've been average at best for years - let's try something different now...
Onwards and upwards
(This news made the sky sports ticker tape as well....!)

Spoke to Darbs on saturday, he was gutted that his injury hasnt been sorted out yet, he said its unfair on him aswell as the club. Funny how last season he was flavour of the month with his goals in the conference and in the final. People are all to quick to shout "Darby Darby Darby" during a game and all to bloody quick to have a pop at the bloke, especially about his fitness and his so called high wages, which infact not one of us actually knows what he does earn. People wont be surprised that Tinno has gone when they take notice that Town are signing nat Brown a centre half from Huddersfield

Many of these players were brought in to do a job for us, that being to get us back in the league. They have done this and just about kept us here, and for that we should be grateful but as someone has already said theres no point being sentimental.
Our target should be to be challenging for the playoffs, this league is not particularly strong but the fact is that the players released are simply not good enough to take us up to the next level - ie being a top half side.
Howie was offered a deal, which he rejected - its sad to see him go but it is understandable that he wants to have first team football, and if we want our young players like Joe hart to progress then they need to play matches and unfortunately goalkeeper is a position where things can't be juggled to accomadate everyone.
As for Tinno, he has improved from his early season form, but hes getting on, his wages won't be cheap and for a large part of the season he wasn't really good enough and looked like his age was catching up with him, something that will only get worse.
Gary Peters has really streamlined the squad and obviously intends to put his mark on it now he has freed up the wages. I think this will be one of the most exciting preseasons in a while with so many new faces needed.
Anyway thanks to the released players, but now is the time to look forward to the Peters era.

I agree with all of that. A big thanks particularly to Howie and Tinson for the role they played in getting us out of the conference. But I supsect that they were both on big money by our standards and Gary wanted to free up some cash for new players. Tinno was a rock in the Conference and was certainly playing a lot better recently but I fear time is catching him up. I still shudder at how he was turned for Histon's first goal. As for Sam, thanks for all the jinking runs - but you flattered to deceive too often.
