he was - heres the official baggies release - good business by them Hulse, who arrived at Albion in an £800,000 switch from Crewe almost two years ago, will put pen to paper on an Elland Road contract before the start of next season. The 6ft 1in forward slipped behind Kevin Campbell, Rob Earnshaw, Kanu and Geoff Horsfield in the Baggies pecking order this term and made just seven substitute appearances before joining Leeds on loan. Manager Bryan Robson said: "I thought Rob was at the stage where he needed first-team football and I couldn't guarantee him that. "He was behind the other four forwards we've got which is why I allowed him to go out on loan. "He's done a terrific job at Leeds and we wish him all the best." Hulse enjoyed a fairytale start to his Albion career last season, scoring 12 goals in his first 20 games, including a memorable double as the Baggies overturned a 3-0 deficit to win 4-3 at West Ham. But, plagued by a stomach injury, he hit a barren spell and managed only one more strike between then and the end of the campaign, against Coventry in March 2004 - his last goal for the club. Meanwhile, former striker Jason Roberts' efforts in firing Wigan into the Barclays Premiership for the first time have pocketed Albion a further £450,000. Two clauses in the transfer which Roberts to the JJB Stadium were triggered yesterday (Sunday), with Albion earning £200,000 from the Grenada international's 60th appearance for the Latics and £250,000 from their promotion to the top flight. It means the total fee the Baggies have received for Roberts has risen to £2.45million, which includes a loan fee from Portsmouth.

Hulse scored a lot of goals during crewes promotion winning season in division 2/league1. Always looked a bit slow, and a bit of a plodder. Definetly benefited from playing alongside Dean Ashton
