Is this the reason they seemed so subdued when taking the cup round at half time on Saturday ?
George Hughes does look promising, at least

A team wins a prestigious youth trophy for the first time-then half of the team is released! WTF!
....and the club is still hell bent on build an new ground with no community/trainning facillities! Getting a bit worried here!

Getting a bit worried here! ] Why are you worried about the youth team? Out of this year's cup winning side we've offered 2 full time contracts (Hart and Adaggio) and 2 a further year to impress. Most clubs only take on 1 or 2 youth players a season.

big difference between youth football and first team/reserve football.
When Sam was 16 he was playing for England.....
I'm pretty sure Gp will have assessed them and will have come to his own conclusions.
There is little point taking on youngsters for the sake of it. You are cheating them, by allowing them to believe they have a genuine chance, and you are cheating the board by wasting vital funds on players who are too old for the youth team and not good enough for the first team who'll be released in a year anyway.
Also of the team that played, Hart, Edwards and Addagio have already been signed up, whilst two others have been offered one year extensions. And there are some lads, such as this Leslie who are still in their first year.
So alls not doom and gloom Taffy.

I'm simply disappointed that a taem that won a competition and obiviously had potential has been broken up.
These lads have been at the club for years so its obviously disappointing to see them leave-not having a pop at anyone. I just feel that keeping succesful youth teams together is beneficial (look at Man Utd in the mid 90's)-plus your average 1st year pro is gonna be a heck of alot cheaper to keep on the books than a journeyman who'll spend half the season in the reserves anyway (Grant, Sedge, O'Connor are all recent examples).

Thing is we've kept 4 of that side - plus you've got Gavin Cadwallader and Dave Edwards who were 1 year above these lot who are also in the pro side now. That's 6 players within a couple of years - a high number to compare with any club.

I'm simply disappointed that a taem that won a competition and obiviously had potential has been broken up. the team is made up of 2nd years, 1st years and schoolboys... so far you've got two pros out of that, two on extended, the eight first years will become second years and the schoolboys will become the next first years... if you get 40% take up on each of the teams then we'll have the greatest youth development system in the history of the world.. just think about things before posting..

in theory... we could have Joe Hart Henry Goh Ross Stephens Gavin Cadwallader Jamie Tolley George Huges Dave Edwards Marco Addiagio playing in the first team in the next 18 months.. thats not bad is it..? AND if Quinny wasnt on a different planet, we'd have Karl Murray there too Luis Van Gaal.. would be proud ! We are the new UK Ajax !

We had some good Youth team debates on here this season.
Everything I've seen in the last few weeks suggests that youth will have it's greates chance for decades to shine at Gay Meadow.
The spine of next season's side will be built around Hart, Cowan, Ashton, Edwards and Langmead.
Ready to have a full crack at the first team are Marco Adaggio and Ciaran Lyng.
Then finally you have Henry Goh, George Hughes and Gavin Cadwallader who have next year to try to get themselves in the position that Marco has managed.
And all of them will get a fair chance under Gary P.
We need to be patient next season, but I am absolutely over the moon that on the pitch at least, things are really starting to look up.
