When Dario over they had finished 23rd in the old division 4. They were a nothing club. Now they are a team that many of us look want to emulate. Dario has done a wonderful job at Crewe.

He also receieved a good reception before the match and grudging applause when he was subbed.
Rumours abound about him doing a rivers and returning back to the club.
As for Crewe.
now 7 of the last 8 seasons have been played in div1/championship. Expectations shift. Most people recognise that crewe are a selling club, however i think they were most annoyed that Dario only spent £170K of the £2/3 mill on a league 2 right back who has struggled with fitness.
Especially as they see Nugent has been scoring a fair few for preston.
The grass is always greener on the otherside.
Oh and 20 matches without a win isnt much fun...

erm funny you say that...
He is a director (i think) but deffinetly takes a percentage of the transfer fee (15%?) its built into his contract (or certanly was in the past).

I've just checked and he is one of 5 directors, then there is a chairman and deputy chairman. How much of an input would Dario have regarding the spending of the money I wonder?
I would find it very strange if it was his idea to not splash the cash on at least a replacement striker. Talk about comitting professional suicide.

well he argues and still maintains that he isnt just about to buy anyone for any price.
He also maintains that the time was right for Dean to move on.
Dario Gradi is the club.
They are in the championship, have first class academy, attract some of the best youngsters about, have a new 7,000 all seater stand, with various facilities as well as a kit made by Reebok.
He has achieved this, with the help of his board.
Also on 40 points i'd have thought that with 4 and a half months left, he like most people believed they could wait till the summer to get a new striker.

it was touching to read about him giving his player time off coz his wife had had a prem baby and saying it puts everything into perspective.

The guy has achieved a lot at crewe, but surely in order for the club to move forward they need to bring in a new manager.

agreed but i think the new man should be overseen by dario. he could teach any new manager a huge amount.

Possibly,
but an indicator of what Dario works with at Crewe is that R+D were able to offer Rodney Jack more money than Crewe could.
The wage structure in place prevents Dario Gradi going out and signing a Darren Huckerby, or even Shaun Goater, regardless of how much the ytransfer fee would be.
I dont think many managers could cope with. There is talk of an overhaul of the playing staff in the summer, most supporters agree that a lot of the players will come from within. How many other managers could cope with working with these resources.
The fan base isn't there to justify decent money signings and wages, and without the sale of a key player every so often they wouldn't run in an operating profit or have the money to invest in their facilities

kind of like us when we were there
we wasted money on dave waller and doungworth - strikers who were supposed to be the answer to everything
who can remember jake king and jackie keay going to wrexham as they paid bigger wages...
