Crikey, Wigan are in the Premiership - I remember watching Lancaster City play Wigan in the Northern Premier League. How times change.

And Crewe look like they're going to survive, as long as they don't conced or Gills win at Forest.

Congratulations to Wigan Athletic.
I know the main man at the club has bank roled them somewhat but it is nice to see a small club and a non footballing town reach the big time.
They can show Rodney Marsh why they deserve to be up there

With Whelan making £25,000,000 available for players there should be every chance.

I don't think I'll be going into Wigan tonight to join the beer and pie-eating Bonanza, though! (Neither will I be tempted to adopt them, even as a "second team"- I haven't got a second team!) All the same- Good Luck to them. It's quite an achievement. I'm glad about Crewe- if only for Mossy's sake!

Wigan's promotion just shows how great the English pyramid football system is, anyone from anywhere can reach the very top in a reasonably short space of time if they want it, well Wimbledon and now Wigan have done it

It's amazing how many people wish Wigan well even though they are only doing well because of a 'Sugar Daddy' chairman and yet many of those same people put Chelsea down as they have 'bought their way to the premier league title'

The team Wigan fielded today cost considerably less than the one Sunderland fielded, did Sunderland buy their success too?

Good god Phil you actually said Chelsea bought the Premiership title Im stunned...so you admit it had nothing to do with your hero Jose's tactics? I actually thought yesterday when Town ran out instead of whistling "Catch us if you can" you were whistling "Blue Is The Colour" ;D The owner of Wigan has been there since they were in League 2 as it is now, he has put stacks into the club, but he is from Wigan and is a Wigan fan. Quite a contast from Roman wouldnt you say.

and it allows MK Dons to slip back out MK Franchise had a fortunate escape yesterday but I can still see the day when they play AFC Wimbledon in a League fixture, albeit I dont know how long away it will be

Indeed Wigan are still a small club, who's attendances are modest to say the least. However what i will say for them is that Paul Jewell has spent wisely, Jimmy Bullard, Roberts, Ellison etc. And they havent been afraid to buy players from lower leagues Also how much of that £75million was spent building the ground and facilities???

For the Wigan v Reading game as of today. Squad transfer fees paid (as per soccer base) were Wigan 5.59 million v Reading 1.65 million. I know we were supposed to be the third lowest wage bill on the survey for the championship earlier in the year but don't know where Wigan were. That's the difference between the two chairman. One a footy fan, one a money man. They view it from a different angle. Still, at least it may be six years running to feature in the play off battle! (yawn!)......

Will he get it, and if not will he throw his toys out

Scroll down to the end of this one............ www.royals.org/forum_jan2004.htmlSo what happens when Coppell knocks on the chairmans door today asking for 20 million ? Will he get it, and if not will he throw his toys out He won't get it....and quite a few wouldn't be bothered if he did throw his toys out! Remember the irony of Town having an International defender as a manager and the defence leaking like a sieve? Or the International forward who's forwards couldn't score while he was a manager at Town? All I'll say is Coppell was an international winger.......and there I rest my case (as many will have witnessed on Sunday! )
