Noticed today that its just us and AFC Telford in it as Ludlow have now had to pull out due to releagtion. What a bloody farce Lets ditch this comp after this summer as I want us to go to the NBH and win

Ditch it now, its a waste of a competition, i would rather us play a pre season friendly where we can be tested against better opposition

I don't think STFC can pull out of the competition. I believe all clubs are obliged to play in their local FA county cup competition.
We could put out the youngsters though, there is nothing to stop that.

We could put out the youngsters though, there is nothing to stop that. Kevin Ratcliffe did just that against Shifnal and got slated. Personally I think if we have to play a pub league side we should send the kids and let Gary and Mick get on with running a professional football team.

i have always enjoyed the ssc for some strange reason and its always good to play telford. its what pre season is all about and with a completely different team the more games they have together to gel the better.

Would be interesting to see what the Shrops FA would have done if Telford hadn't been reformed last season AND the relegations this time around.
Would they just handed us the trophy to keep till another club was deemed to be 'Senior' to give us a game.

How about Wrexham & Hereford? Not Wrexham, we have got them twice next year. Hereford on the other hand, could be the next century before we are in the same league as them again.

There are 3 FA trophy wins as well Rob!
The SSC is a traditional thing, but to be honest, it serves little purpose to anyone and thats been the case for the last 15 years or so!
At one time it was nice to see some players on show who were at the peak of their games (Kasule, Bell, Kelly etc. and the eras before them). These days, neither side has much to write home about on the playing front. To use the "friendly" card is a bit of a misleading thing, as there is no way the clubs, or the police, would allow a "friendly" match of this nature.

Ever heard of the Mouse that Roared?? Top Film At least you'll have 11 signed on players this year, but what's the point in you getting a whalloping, what will that do for team confidence going into a new season - anyway, don't you have to play a prestige friendly against Dawley Villa as part of a transfer agreement

Hello HH, Bottom line is we don't know which league we'll be in next season! We will either enter the Northern premier (most logical), but due to our location, we may be put into the southern league premier Division. My personal preference is the Northern Premier league, but at least we won't have the Isthmian League, which I think is the toughest of the lot!!

In the Herefordshire Senior Cup teams such as Wellington, Kington and Ledbury have taken part, these clubs play in the West Midlands League which is ironically the League that Ludlow and Bridgnorth have been relegated to!
IMO the Shropshire FA should be inviting clubs such as Market Drayton and Shawbury as well as Ludlow, Bridgnorth and Shifnal back into the competition, its turned into a farce and totally meaningless competition now, maybe it should be played as a 'reserve' team game during the season instead of billing it as a pre-season warm up for the first team.

Post by scooter on May 8, 2005 10:59:54 GMT 1
It used to be played during the season, but the crowds were even worse, and putting it at the end of the season causes problems if clubs get to other cup finals, play-offs etc, so pre season is best. That all works fine for 3 or 4 clubs, but not if more enter.
The problem now is that Ludlow's relegation was unexpected. If the Senior Cup is extended to W Mids League clubs there would be too many to play it pre season, and too short notice to change the format. It may be the way to go in future, but Shrops FA will have to accept us (and Telford) putting out a kids/reserve team.

I really like the Shropshire Senior Cup,and really there can be no excuse for there being a shortage of teams in Shropshire.Newport Shifnal Bridgnorth should provide teams or the Shropshire County league Champions or Premier Champions in The Shrewsbury league or Telford Sunday league, the list is endless really from all over Shropshire. How about the top eight teams in the County?.All competition is good pre-season for the Town as we might use a new side for next season. The big games against good league opposition should also be included. But not in the Local Cup.
