so liverpools goal didnt cross the line so sky have proved so what would have happened had the dogdy lino played fair ? was it too late to give a pen to liverpool ? after all play have gone on for a few secs after the possible foul once again i think the americans are ahead of us had it been american football a flag would have gone down on the foul video evidence would have been used and no goal given but a pen awarded and a red card and even if the goal had crossed the line they would have been given the choice of goal or pen either way the lino should swap glasses with rob lewis

The referee, at his discretion can go back to the original foul if he feels no advantage was gained within reasonable time. Therefore a blatant red card and penalty if the goal hadnt been awarded.

When would the ref have stopped the game for the 'goal'?
The ball was still in play and theoretically still in the middle of a Liverpool attack.
You would have to wait until the ball went out of play which would be utterly ridiculous - could be a 1 or 2 minute wait.
Say NO to video technology.

Anyone else get the feeling the final is really 3rd vs 4th place?

Officiating mistakes make football all the more interesting aye, I agree. Someone on the radio the other day was saying that football need never pay for publicity when it gets it so good from incidents like this ;D

If we didn't have the Men in Black/Yellow/Green/Mauve to hate, we'd end up having to hate something else, like our team (even more than usual )

The wonderful thing about football is that it’s the same game played at ever level...from park football to internationals...same game, no difference. I want it to stay that way, I say no to video technology...

the lino's position was completely obscured by garcia and the ref was in a good position to see the foul but not the ball crossing the line.
i don't blame either but i guess that there should have been sufficient doubt for the goal not to have stood. my initial reaction was penalty before the 'goal' went in and i don't know whether a red card would have been issued too.
i do believe the ball and posts should have a sensor in them to indicate a goal. sky almost 24 hours to use their computer solution - i think we need something quicker! it ought to be tested next season in a cup comp. hopefully it'll be better than tennis' 'cyclops'!!!!

Think of the slow handclaps that occur when an opposition player is down for any more than 20 seconds (and our lack of shame even when we realise it's a broken ankle....) and I can't see us going for it.

i'm all in favour of video technology for the ball crossing the line, surely somethings gotta be trialed after the 2 big clangers that have been made this season.

As long as they don't use "store security" technology. Only take the 'keeper to forget to de-tag his new Calvin's and before you know it, 4-0 down and the ball hasn't even been in the box

ok yes, and that decision could end up costing spurs a UEFA cup spot.
personally though i just don't see what arguments there can be against video technology for decisions about whether the ball crossed the line or not.

At what point would you stop the game? If there was a 100% or close enough way of the referee being able to receive electronic notification of the ball passing the line without the need for stopping the game and using a video, then I'd probably be for it.

well half the time the game virtually stops as one team is off celebrating their 'goal' and the other team is complaining to the ref. But would there be any real difference in time than a scenario which happens quite often i.e. when the linesman has his flag up for an offside but the ref doesn't notice for half a minute and the game carries on until he does notice and play goes back and a free kick is then given?
